Not every day sees our engineers on the tools, but when access to critical infrastructure calls for it, we get hands-on.

We’ve recently been engaged by a client to investigate underperformance in a key pipeline. Using pressure loggers installed at strategic points (like scour valves and air valves), we’re building a clearer picture of where flow restrictions may be occurring within the system.

Why does it matter?
Identifying these pressure losses allows the client to make informed decisions about maintenance or upgrades - whether that’s scouring the pipeline, replacing sections, or installing additional pipework. Improving pipeline performance means more efficient energy use, which is a win for both operations and the environment.

📷 As for the photos - sometimes buried valves mean we’ve got to get a little muddy to get the data we need. No dedicated tie-in points? No problem.

We're halfway through the data collection phase, and already seeing promising indicators of where the bottlenecks might be. More to come as we complete the second half of the system!

🚰 Project Announcement 🚰

We’re proud to play a key role in the significant upgrades to the Goldfields and Agricultural Water Supply Scheme (GAWSS). With over 10 years of involvement in the Golden Pipeline projects, we have modelled nearly the entire 600km pipeline from Perth to Kalgoorlie, positioning us perfectly for this new initiative.

In collaboration with Water Corporation, our team will conduct a comprehensive transient analysis to determine if the increased capacity will require additional surge protection along the pipeline. We will also provide direct input into the engineering and detailed design of the pipeline and pump station upgrades.

This project is a crucial step towards enhancing water security and sustainability in the Goldfields and Wheatbelt regions. By ensuring a reliable water supply, we support local communities, promote regional growth, and contribute to the long-term sustainability of Western Australia's water resources. Meet Folkert, our Principal Water Systems Engineer, who joined OneStone in May 2023. Folkert brings over 20 years of experience in designing and testing advanced equipment and process systems for the defence, nuclear, and water sectors.​

Folkert's expertise includes designing water and wastewater treatment plants, optimising hydraulic water systems, and leading multidisciplinary engineering teams. ​

His passion for engineering, especially in dynamic fluid systems, drives him to find innovative solutions for complex challenges.​
