Port Augusta Cultural Centre - Yarta Purtli “Yarta Purtli” is a Nukunu word meaning Place of the Stars. The Art Gallery is manned by a dedicated group of volunteers.

The Yarta Purtli Art Gallery and Cultural Centre supports and encourages community and individual participation in all facets of the arts and culture. “Yarta Purtli” is a Nukunu word meaning Place of the Stars. Please follow any COVID-19 rules and regulations when visiting. Monday – Friday 10am – 4pm

After the incredible success of the 2024 exhibition—welcoming over 9,000 visitors—the Solar & Sun Sculpture Exhibition returns in 2026 to the breathtaking Australian Arid Lands Botanic Garden!

Malka 2025 Update...

We are now accepting artworks to be dropped off with registration forms for the 2025 Malka Aboriginal Art Prize. DEADLINE Friday 23rd May.

The Malka Aboriginal Art Prize was initiated by the late Mr Marvin McKenzie Senior, whose vision was to have an Aboriginal art show that ensured the Aboriginal community would have a space to showcase their work.

‘Malka’ is a word used by several Aboriginal language groups within the Port Augusta region, meaning mark or painting.
In 2025 it will be the 16th year the Aboriginal Art Prize has been held.

Entries in the 2025 Malka Aboriginal Art Prize are eligible for:
⚫ 2025 Malka Grand Prize Winner - $5,000 plus $2,000 of art supplies
⚫ Mr Marvin McKenzie Senior Local Artist Award - $2,500 plus $500 of art supplies
⚫ People’s Choice Award - $2,500 plus $500 of art supplies
⚫ Elder Award (60 years or over) - $2,500 plus $500 of art supplies
⚫Youth/Junior Award (15 years or under) – $1,000 plus $500 of art supplies

NOTE: All works must be ready to hang.

Our Story

The Cultural Centre supports and encourages community and individual participation in all facets of the arts and culture. “Yarta Purtli” is a Nukunu word meaning Place of the Stars.

Established in 2008, the gallery offers a diverse range of exhibitions including local artworks as well as touring exhibitions. New exhibitions are on display each month and the Gallery provides a variety of workshops, artist talks and other activities in addition to the annual exhibition program. Community arts development assistance is also available to local arts organisations, community groups and artists through the Aboriginal Arts and Cultural Facilitator position which is jointly funded between Port Augusta City Council and Country Arts SA.
