Port Campbell SLSC would like to congratulate Andrew Vogels on being awarded life membership of the Victorian Surfboat Rowers League.
Voges began his rowing journey with Port Campbell in the 1991/92 season as a member of our first ever dedicated Open Men’s A crew. What started with sore hands and a steep learning curve quickly developed into a lifelong passion. Under the guidance of Lurch, that crew became the first A Grade crew from Port Campbell to win a heat at both the Victorian Championships and Australian Championships, a big achievement for our little club and created memories and friendships that remain strong today.
Over the next 34 years, Voges became an influential figures in our clubs Surfboat history. As a rower he achieved success at Victorian, Australian and World Masters level, collecting numerous medals along the way.
His contribution extends far beyond rowing. As Boat Captain, Team Manager, coach, sweep, mentor and committee member, Voges has helped shape generations of Port Campbell surf boat rowers. He has recruited and developed countless junior athletes, mentored new sweeps, contributed to coaching education, and played a key role in establishing the Port Campbell Short Course Carnival, which has become a valued annual event on the Victorian surf boat calendar.
As a Performance Coach and Sweep Assessor, Voges is respected throughout Victoria for his professionalism, technical knowledge, willingness to learn, and commitment to sharing that knowledge with others. His leadership has helped Port Campbell achieve various accolades including Victorian and State representative successes across multiple age groups and divisions.
With 34 years of active membership to our club, service on the VSRL Committee from 2018–2025, and an unwavering commitment to the growth of surf boat rowing, this Life Membership is a fitting recognition of an outstanding contribution to surf boat rowing.
Congratulations Voges. Thank you for everything you have done for Port Campbell SLSC, Victorian surf boat rowing, and the many rowers whose lives you have influenced along the way
