Ankara tour guides association organized a trip to Gordion, City of king Midas. 27 of us had a great time, professor Brian Rose leading the excavations since 2013,speaks Turkish well was our guide . It is a quite large area with 132 Tumulus,the one we visited belongs to Gordios ,the father of the king Midas. They took stalite photos to find the main room but drilling holes towards the main room helped them more, 150 m long tunnel dug by miners to reach the monumental chamber. Big logs of juniper tree,yellow pine and cedar used. The whole year around the temperature is about 15-16 degrees and no humidity protects them well. They haven't found the king Midas 's Tumulus yet.
The most interesting thing was what they did with the new born male member of the royal family.when baby was born they would do a kind of plaster, putting wooden boards above the ears and wrap the head with a material to give the skull a melon shape like some Aileen pictures or drawings to make public to believe only royal family members had that type head shape.
