Spirit of Mulga - Black & White

This “rising ghost” perspective of 5m ‘Mulga’ emphasises his huge head and jaws. Prior to this moment this exceptionally long male shark (5m) had risen vertically in the water column and then effortlessly turned horizontal and directly back towards us.

We suspect that grand Ol’ Mulga, a former 13 consecutive seasonal repeat shark to the Neptune Islands (2001-2013) may now no longer be with us.

It’s pretty busy around our submersible cage right now.

The past tour is recorded up to 8 white sharks/day and from our special submersible ‘Ocean Floor Cage’ we have enjoyed experiencing up to 4-6 sharks at a time on many dives since early April.

And although we are fully sold out on most dates over the next few months, there are still a few spaces available on a new peak season “Big Gal” date June 20-24 on a special 4-night Mark Tozer hosted tour, celebrating the great Jacques Cousteau. Some spaces have also been released again on a 5 dive-day expedition itinerary, July 10-14.

After enduring over a year of record low shark numbers, the Neptune Islands has bounced back with strong shark activity now recorded along with wonderful weather conditions so far this season.

The current tour is recording up to 8 white sharks in a day and from our special submersible ‘Ocean Floor Cage’ we have experienced up to 4-6 sharks at a time on dives since early April.

Henderwick, pictured here, was a particularly unpredictable and potentially menacing shark we encountered, despite his deceptively cheerful demeanor. His left pectoral fin, which curved upwards at the end like a 737 jet wing, was a distinctive feature. We find it fascinating that each great white shark has unique ID markings and a consistent personality year after year. We’re excited for our guests to get to know each shark, some of which return to the Neptune Islands at the same time every year. JUST COMPLETED
– Our First Ever SOUTH AUSTRALIAN WRECK DIVING EXPEDITION!

We’ve just wrapped up an unforgettable 7-night wreck diving adventure across South Australia – and what a trip it was!
Over the week, we explored 14 incredible dive sites, including the stunning Kangaroo Island and Rapid Bay, where we had the privilege of spotting the elusive Leafy Sea Dragons. From historic wrecks to iconic marine life, this trip had it all.
Our dives ranged from 3m to 55m, catering to both recreational deep divers and technical enthusiasts. We welcomed rebreather and sidemount divers, and provided a full gas selection:
• 16/45 Trimix
• 50% O2
• 32% Nitrox
• Air
One of the standout moments was diving the wreck of the PAM, a site that’s only been dived twice in the last 90 years at 53m!
Each night we gathered for incredible dive talks, sharing stories, insights, and a whole lot of laughter. We wrapped things up with a fun-filled quiz night that tested everyone’s diving knowledge and memory from the week – a perfect way to celebrate an epic adventure.
We’re now calling for expressions of interest for our next trip in March 2026, with a similar itinerary and one more virgin wreck site lined up

With international Seal Day held recently on March 22nd to promote the conservation of seals, it’s a fitting excuse to again showcase the Australian sea lion as perhaps the most lovely but also unfortunately one of the most endangered seals in the world.
