Budj Bim Tours has been offering authentic, guided tours through the Budj Bim National Heritage Landscape since 1999. Experience the important history of the Gunditjmara people through the eyes of one of our expert Indigenous guides. Walk as a guest on Gunditjmara country and you will experience a culture that is over 6000 years old. You will see remnants of a settled lifestyle including circular

stone dwellings and the remains of Australia's first and largest freshwater stone aquaculture system.

With the really nice weather last week the sunsets were stunning, followed up with cold mornings and dew on the cobwebs.
And the best part of heading into winter is the bolete mushrooms are back out bush.

A wonderful acknowledgement to Aunty Con 🥰 (Gilgar Gunditj of the Gunditjmara Nation) with her continuity to culture.
Aunty Con's name became synonymous with graceful, much revered and loved and basket weaving.
Aunty Con will forever remain the foremost woman in South West District for crafting kooyang (eel) baskets.

Because of her, we can! 💟

Happy happy National Eucalypt Day 🥰
We have over 850 Eucalypt species.
Eucalypts provides us with clean air - water and habitat for our native wildlife and they can store an enormous amounts of CO2.
An abundance of wildlife species call these trees home including koalas, gliders, possums and native birds.
Many species of eucalypts ooze thick, red resin kino (or sap), which is the preferred food source for the threatened yellow-bellied glider.
Please remember the importance of these iconic trees, hug a tree, plant a tree, feed a tree. Trees are life. 🧡

It was a huge moment when Aunty Eileen (Maude) Alberts retired as the Budj Bim Rangers mentor. Aunty Maude has selflessly shared her memories and experience over many generations of young and old alike, more importantly she is a huge font of information regarding almost all things Gunditj. She'll still be around for the odd tour.
Aunty Maude is now enjoying her time in her garden and we wish her all the best life has to offer and endless thanks. 🧡

Love how Facebook asks "what's on your mind?" and actually it's a lot, first apologies we've (I've) been remiss in not posting or sharing our beautiful Mirring (Country) and (2) of course without saying our feathered friends.
This time we do have scales. not snake, nor blue-tongue lizard but something that is just simply stunning.
And 2 hour tours are still being conducted at Tyrendarra's Indigenous Protected Area (IPA), walk upon the lands of the Gilgar Gunditj with a Gilgar Miminee (woman).

From the movie "The Crow", there is a quote - "it can't rain all the time".
Down the Southwest of Vic, it sure does feel like it some days. There is water lying around where it hasn't been for 2+ years.
Tyrendarra IPA at the moment is exceptional with the water running through the channels and traps.
The absolute best part of winter is waiting for the orchids, we have quite a few different species of Green hoods & the Cordyceps are popping up too. Lol, it can't be a Budj Bim Tour Post if there wasn't at least one bird, a Nankeen Kestrel.

Over the past few weeks had the privilege of conducting tours at the Tyrendarra Indigenous Protected Area for Heywood Rural Health, thank you :) it has been fun.
Last tour was conducted today and headed into Heywood via Mt Clay road & this fella was waiting by the side of the road lol & of course my camera was nearby.

Winter is finally winter, stay warm folks 🔥

We are off and running with tours again, starting the 30th of June,
at the Tyrendarra Indigenous Protected Area. ☺ Come along and spend a few hours out bush, it is simply amazing.

A few photos from the vault, some that has been posted before and the first time since 2008 that a tawny frog mouth has been recorded at Tyrendarra. That is a HUGE yay. 🤩

Honey, we're home!!
It has been a while, back we're back with a vengeance and a zest for life ☺
