A weekend at Vivid Sydney and a little indulgence never hurt anyone…
We checked into the Four Seasons Sydney for two nights in a Harbour View Room on the 26th floor. Arriving around 2pm, we settled in as the afternoon sun glistened across the harbour, ferries came and went from Circular Quay, and a cruise ship sat proudly in port. It was one of those views you could happily watch for hours.
As evening arrived, the harbour transformed into a sea of colour as Vivid came to life. Watching the lights dance across Sydney Harbour and the Opera House from the comfort of our room was something pretty special.
The room itself was everything you'd expect from a luxury stay – comfortable beds, a cosy window seat, Bose sound system and all the little touches that make you feel thoroughly spoiled. And if you're staying at the Four Seasons, do yourself a favour and include the buffet breakfast. The selection was incredible and certainly set us up for the day.
One of the highlights was Cruise Sydney our Journey Beyond dinner cruise, and please when your in Sydney, book one of their lunch or dinner cruise, 3 courses, with beverages and a stunning view, with pre and post-dinner drinks at the Four Seasons bar. A wonderful way to spend an evening on the harbour.
We also ventured out on a whale watching cruise with Fantasea Cruises. As an NRMA member we received a handy 20% discount and, while we unfortunately didn't spot any whales this time around (the photo is for show only!), we did receive a return ticket valid for 12 months, so we'll be back for another attempt.
Jim had never visited the Sydney Opera House, so despite some protesting hips and knees we walked from Campbell's Cove to the Opera House. Thankfully Sydney's waterfront offers no shortage of places to stop for refreshments along the way!
With no dinner plans on Saturday evening, we simply wandered through the hundreds of food trucks and stalls scattered around the foreshore. The aromas, flavours and atmosphere were fantastic, with food from around the world and endless vantage points to admire the Vivid displays.
Saturday night certainly brought the crowds. Patience was required as Sydneysiders and visitors alike descended on the harbour, but the atmosphere was electric and the light displays were worth every step.
Vivid remains one of Sydney's most spectacular events, and seeing the Opera House illuminated against the harbour backdrop is something everyone should experience at least once.
Now... where shall we splurge on our next weekend away?
