As at 5pm today Fraser Island is closed to new visitors due to the wild fires. Please see alert from QPWS below:

"The Queensland Government is restricting visitor access to K’gari (Fraser Island) in the interest of public safety. The Queensland Fire and Emergency Services and Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service is continuing to manage a fire response on the island. As a safety precaution, as at 5pm 27 November, new visitor access to K’gari (Fraser Island) will be restricted until further notice. People who have a camping or vehicle access permit booked to visit and are not able to use it due to the restricted access will be notified and receive a refund. You are able to amend or manage your booking any time via www.qld.gov.au/camping. Existing visitors on the island are being asked to remain alert to the potential for any change in conditions. Please observe all signage, barriers and directions from rangers and emergency personnel and do not enter closed areas. Smoke may impact some camping areas, and beach drivers should exercise caution if smoke is impacting visibility.
