Clients Phil & Lynne sent us these photos from Longyearbyen - up in Norway's Svalbard archipelago, where they are this week, after doing a Hurtigruten cruise.

Probably the most well known town in the Arctic for its Northern Lights. They experience incredible periods (months at a time) of darkness and light - with 4 months of continuous polar night darkness in the winter and 4 months of 24-hour midnight sun in the summer.

A small coal mining town on Spitsbergen Island, with just 1000 residents, it is the world's northernmost permanently inhabited town - located at 78° North latitude.
With no roads connecting Longyearbyen to other settlements - the only way to travel outside the town is by boats, snowmobiles, or aircraft. To get there it is a 3 hour flight from Oslo or a 90 minute flight from Tromso.

FUN FACT: Polar Bear Safety: Carrying a firearm is mandatory when venturing outside town limits due to the real risk of polar bear encounters. That's scary!

DID YOU KNOW: There are No Graveyards, as the permafrost prevents bodies from decomposing; so the gravely ill or elderly must leave for the mainland.

Jenny's overnight accommodation in Hue was at Azerai La Residence. This hotel is part of The Small Luxury Hotels of the World group. It is an absolute French colonial masterpiece, with gorgeous architecture, and is located on the banks of the perfume river, known locally as Song Huong. With elegant pool gardens and a setting that feels like a private estate you almost forget where you are.

More photos to come of Hue, but this hotel deserves it's own post.

What is Jenny up to in Vietnam???

It is all about the timing!!! Jenny had a packed day in Hanoi experiencing a variety of activities and places, but with something a little different. They started out in vintage military jeeps, exploring Hanoi. There was a visit to the Famous Train Street - look at how close the tracks are to the people selling their wares and the cafes. Then a visit and walk along the famous Long Bien Bridge, followed by a unique restaurant lunch with the famous egg coffee - "one of the nicest things I have had, and all in an oasis of calm amongst the hutsle and bustle of a busy city".

For the next 8 days, Jenny will be exploring Vietnam, as part of our Luxury Travel Collection Immersion program, inconjunction with Wide Eyed Tours. We will be showcasing highlights of her trip - follow along.

The adventure started in the bustling French colonial city of Hanoi.
Home for the night was the newly opened Fairmont hotel, well located close to the historic old quarter. The hotel was designed as ‘ the modern heartbeat of Hanoi’, featuring a rooftop pool and terrace bar with wonderful views over the city.
The hotel is home to an INCREDIBLE bath house , complimentary to all guests.

TIP: Avoid the chaos of the motorbikes, and take a half day city tour in a vintage military Jeep which includes lunch in a unique local restaurant.

In a week filled with global losses, I am reflecting how fortunate we were in 2025, to take clients travelling Japan with Anne & Barry on our small hosted journey, to visit Naoshima Island. The most recognisable thing for Australians on the island, is probably Yayoi Kusama’s, iconic yellow and black spotted pumpkin on the pier! Many Australians were recently introduced to Yayoi’s works, at the recent exhibition in Melbourne.

For many years, I have known of Anne’s admiration and love of famous Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama’s. So when planning the itinerary, I was not surprised that Anne was keen to take our travellers over to the island for the day. This is why our small hosted journeys are unique; we curate the itinerary and step off the well worn paths away from the “must see” or “Top 10” attractions.

Naoshima Island is located in the Seto Inland Sea and has become a popular contemporary art destination accessed via ferry (20 minutes) from Tamano.
Yayoi lived voluntarily in a psychiatric hospital in Tokyo since 1977, and walked just across the street to her studio, every single day, to create her iconic art.
Her famous polka dots and net patterns come from real visual hallucinations she experienced since she was a young child.
Rest easy Yayoi Kusama.

It’s one thing to tell your clients collecting their documents - “you are never too old”
Imagine our delight when clients Phil and Lynne, sent us this photo to say they took Jenny’s advice and went “ZIPLINING” in Norway.

Pictured is the Holmenkollen Ski Jump that featured in the 1952 Winter Olympics in Oslo.
Today you start at the top of the ski jump tower, and experience the views and speed of the professional ski jumpers, via a zip line.
It is 351 metres (1185 feet) in length and has a vertical decent of 107 metres (351 feet of vertical decent!
