Steamrail held their 2026 Open Day on the Labour Day weekend and we were approached to provide a wheelchair accessible low floor bus to accompany the heritage buses conducting the shuttles. These shuttles were between Newport station, Newport Workshops and the Newport Railway Museum.

Our driver Jordan put up his hand to volunteer for the whole weekend. Being an avid rail fan himself he had no hesitations to get involved! Jordan was aided by Steve and Jacob so that Jordan could take breaks, and still keep the low floor bus moving!

A special thanks also to Tyson and Marko for volunteering their time to prepare the low floor, including creating a poster showing the operational history of the low floor used for that weekend.

Yesterday we had the pleasure of attending the BCSV: Classic Bus Show at the Melbourne Steam Centre, Scoresby!

As always, our Volvo B10M Coach was the first choice in vehicles to take and even featured as a rare opportunity for some to ride along on the scheduled "Joyrides" offered at the event.

Through the dark and gloomy weather that was yesterday, we hope we were able to bring a bit of "Sunshine" to the day! (Pun very much intended)

On the way back to the depot, our driver Jordan could not pass up the opportunity to drive on the Albert Park Grand Prix track as it currently undergoes preparation for the Australian F1 Grand Prix in a couple weeks time.

Today we spent some time training and retraining our drivers on how to operate the wheelchair lift. This demonstration is extremely important so that drivers can load and unload safely. Part of the training focused on how tho operate the lift in manual mode if the lift fails. Part of the pre trip inspection requires the driver to check that the wheelchair is working before leaving the yard. This is extremely important when operating rail replacement services that require DDA compliant vehicles. We believe training is invaluable and gives the driver confidence when carrying out their duties.

We decided to extend the life of 8443AO Coach Design hi deck ex Britz. We removed all the windows and some panels to preparare the vehicle for inspection by the engineer. The vehicle was in a very good condition and after some minor repairs a 10 year extension was granted. We are certainly happy with the Australian built bodies.
