A reminder about some feedback the TRC are asking for from community if you are interested.

Footpath Conversation
Tablelands Regional Council is inviting the community to join the conversation about footpaths in Atherton, Malanda and Yungaburra central business districts.
‘Department of Transport and Main Roads has provided funding to develop walking network plans to help us understand the walking needs and opportunities in these towns,’ said Mayor Rod Marti.
‘We want to hear from the community about how the footpaths in these towns are used, what challenges people face with the current footpaths and what footpaths are needed.
‘The information will inform the development of walking network action plans for Atherton, Malanda and Yungaburra, and contribute to securing funding for implementation in the coming years.
‘Hopefully we can secure additional funding to extend the program to other Tablelands towns in the future,’ Mayor Marti said. Join the conversation (trc.qld.gov.au/join-conversation) by Monday 14 April.

TRC media release for those artists in our town!

Tablelands Regional Council is inviting applications for 2026 exhibitions in their three galleries.

‘Groups and individuals can apply to exhibit in the Tableland Regional Gallery, Old Post Office Gallery and Foyer Gallery,’ said Mayor Rod Marti.

‘We’re keen to see applications from artists and curators at all stages of their practice and from across our diverse Tablelands community.

‘We’re hosting an information session for potential exhibitors at 10am Saturday 22 March at Tableland Regional Gallery.

‘We’ll cover the application process and exhibition planning, and there will be a presentation by Helen Hume and Alison Faigniez from the Gallery Hanging Team,’ Mayor Marti said.

Marnie Hutchinson Awram’s exhibition Quiet was displayed at Tableland Regional Gallery in 2024.

‘Exhibiting at Tableland Regional Gallery was a fabulous opportunity for myself as an artist to build my confidence, networks and sense of place, after moving to the Tablelands a few years ago.

‘I chose to explore our landscape and how we interact with the pristine wilderness in this region.

‘The ideation process involved walking into these areas and translating what I experienced into the narrative of storytelling in my artworks.

‘This built a great connection for me and helped me feel embedded and engaged with the local area.

‘The feedback I received goes a long way to building my confidence as an artist and the bigger connection that we are contributing something to the collective stories of our community.

‘Along the way I built friendships and was supported by some wonderful people in the art community.

‘The Galleries Officer and very professional install team made my experience seamless and fun.

‘I intend to apply for another exhibition at the Tableland Regional Gallery, as for me it was a highly successful experience,’ Ms Awram said.

Applications must be received by 5pm Wednesday 30 April and exhibition, gallery and application information is available at trc.qld.gov.au/galleries .

The Department of the Treasury is seeking community input on mandatory acceptance of cash for the purchase of essential items and are keen to hear from the broader community, particularly in regional areas.

While people are increasingly using digital payments, there is an ongoing place for cash in our society. Input from local businesses and the broader community will help ensure that the mandate balances the needs of all Australians and supports a more efficient and inclusive payments system.

The consultation paper considers:

the needs of those who rely on cash
the mandate’s scope and application
how to promote compliance
cash distribution and access.

Small businesses and other interested parties are invited to provide comment on the consultation paper.

The policy team will also be holding in-person consultation sessions in Townsville and Darwin.

Find out more about the consultation at treasury.gov.au/consultation/c2024-604832

Submissions close 14 February 2025.

Below is an alert from the TRC:

A boil water notice (BWN) has been issued for properties connected to the Cassowary Heights Water Supply Scheme. A BWN remains in place for properties connected to the Millstream (North and South) water supply schemes (11.40am Saturday 14 December 2024).

Residents at these properties must boil water for consumption until further notice.

We are working closely with Queensland Health (QH) to resolve the situation but the BWN will stay in effect until QH is confident there is no public health risk.

Consumption of unboiled water could lead to illness, especially for vulnerable people (e.g. very young, elderly and those with weak immune systems). If you are concerned that you may have been affected by contaminated water contact 13 HEALTH (13 43 25 84), your local doctor or the hospital and advise them about your concerns.

Bring water to a boil by heating until a continuous and rapid stream of air-bubbles is produced from the bottom of a pan or kettle. Kettles with automatic cut-off switches are suitable and variable temperature kettles should be set to boil. After heating, water must be allowed to cool before using it, and be stored in a clean, closed container for later use.

You should boil all water used for:
drinking
brushing teeth
washing and preparing food or beverages
preparing baby formula
making ice
bathing babies and toddlers.

Unboiled water may be used for:
showering and bathing (avoid getting water in your mouth)
washing dishes by hand or in a dishwasher
washing clothes
flushing toilets.

Notify neighbours and other residents who may be affected by this alert.

Sign up for the Early Warning Network to receive email or SMS alerts where there is a disruption to your water service.
