We are back from our fantastic Opera in the Outback Tour celebrating the Opera Queensland Festival of Outback Opera. What an amazing experience with a wonderful group of travellers! ✨🎼

We travelled to Longreach to our base at Outback Pioneers. Next day we travelled to Winton to visit the Australian Age of Dinosaurs for a guided tour followed by a visit to the Waltzing Matilda Centre before heading back out for the glorious sunset and soaring voices at the Dark Sky Serenade. 🦕🎶

Next day we visited Nogo Station for a glimpse of life on an outback station before heading to the Longreach Show for an authentic country town experience. 🐑

Our next Opera event was to Camden Park Station for Singing in the Night. We were up early the next day to see the start of the The Great Australian Charity Cattle Drive followed by a visit to the Australian Stockman's Hall of Fame and Outback Heritage Centre where we saw the Qld Governor unveiling a new royal portrait. We then enjoyed a fun opera singalong at the Drover’s Place. Our final opera festival event was the Gala Opera Ball on the banks of the Thomson River. 💃🏻
We then had a thrilling Stagecoach ride experiencing a little of the Cobb and Co days before visiting the Longreach School of Distance Education to see how modern technology overcomes distance in education. We enjoyed a sunset cruise on the Thomson River before a traditional stockmans’ campfire dinner and a dramatic sound and light show telling the story of Captain Starlight. 🐎🌅

Our last day saw us touring the Qantas Founders Museum before flying home to Brisbane.

This was a wonderful way to see and hear the outback differently! Everyone should add the Opera Queensland’s Festival of Outback Opera to their travel bucket list!

The destination for our May Mystery Tour was the Sunshine Coast! Our accommodation for the two nights was Oaks Sunshine Coast Oasis Resort.

We headed off in misty rain to the Sunshine Coast hinterland where we visited beautiful Maleny and explored the shops before making our way to Flaxton Gardens for a delicious lunch with amazing views across to the coast. We then visited Flame Hill Vineyard and Restaurant for a wine tasting paired with local cheeses.

Next day we visited the Caloundra Air Museum for a fascinating guided tour of the historic aircraft. We then had lunch at the Bli Bli Hotel before visiting the quirky Sunshine Castle to view the medieval displays, doll collections and dioramas. A sunset cruise on the canals at Mooloolaba was a lovely way to finish the day. We even saw the Irwins’ boat Croc One!

Our final day saw us visiting Mary Cairncross park for views of the Glasshouse Mountains and a visit to the rainforest centre before a delicious morning tea at the Mountain View Cafe. We had a very scenic drive along the mountain ridges with spectacular views before stopping for a lovely lunch at Birches Restaurant, Mt Mee.

We were so glad the weather cleared up for us to enjoy this lovely short break with a fantastic group of travellers!

We continued on our winding mountain route to Jindabyne for 2 nights. From there we explored the Alpine Way and the spectacular Charlotte Pass, Perisher Valley and Thredbo. After lunch at historic Sponars Chalet, we had a ride on the chairlift at Thredbo before tasting some delicious drops at Wildbrumby schnapps distillery. 🖼️

🌳Our O’Reilly’s Rainforest Retreat was a fantastic short break in a spectacular location!

☕ Our first stop was to Tamborine Mountain Coffee Plantation where we learnt about the history of coffee and the roasting process and had a lovely morning tea. Afterwards we headed to O'Reilly's Canungra Valley Vineyards for lunch and a wine tasting and a chance to check out the alpacas in their scenic creekside location. We then made our way up the mountain to check in to O'Reilly's Rainforest Retreat. We enjoyed a glass of wine as we watched the sun setting over the distant mountains.🍷

🐦 Next morning some early risers went for a guided walk to see the birds before breakfast. We then travelled on the 4WD bus to explore the original O’Reilly’s farm and hear about the history of the family and the famous Stinson crash discovery. The afternoon was free for guests to explore the area – some braved the Tree Top walk or explored the Botanic Gardens. Others fed the birds. That night we walked through the rainforest to a creek bank where beautiful glow worms twinkled in the darkness.

🥃Next day we made our way back down the mountain and up to Tamborine Mountain Distillery where we learnt about distilling spirits and tasted some of their unique liqueurs. We then headed to the Gold Coast Motor Museum to see the amazing collection of cars and motorbikes. After lunch at Stanleys Barn, we headed back to Brisbane.

O’Reilly’s is such a beautiful relaxing retreat and we had a wonderful group of travellers sharing the experience!

Out here, every visit counts.

There’s a lot of noise right now telling people to rethink how they travel…

But out here, travel isn’t just movement.
It’s connection. It’s livelihood. It’s community.

It’s the coffee poured first thing in the morning.
The friendly wave as you roll into town.
The stories shared, the meals served, the doors kept open.

In Outback Queensland, your journey does more than take you somewhere…
it helps keep somewhere going.

So if you’ve been second guessing that road trip…
maybe this is your reminder that it matters.

Outback Queensland...
It's something else!
