We’re often inspired by the photos our guests share with us at the end of a tour, and with a few recent guests generously offering us the ability to share those photos, we've decided to run a series of posts showcasing the experience "through the lens" as well as their talent for photography.

Sandy Goddard and her partner joined us on a Murray River Safari in November, these are some of the moments she captured. To see the larger album jump onto the "stories" section on our website.

Two spectacular landscapes - the river valley and the mallee, side by side, brought to life by water. Yesterday our guests from New Zealand and Canberra explored the shallow ephemeral wetlands teeming with birdlife, fringed by lignum, red gums and black box, surrounded by vast red dunes covered by mallee eucalypts and stretching for miles inland. We are specks in this wilderness. Just awesome! , , ,

It's heart-warming to read an optimistic forecast on the status of the Vulnerable Regent Parrot. We've also noted an increase in sightings in recent years on both our Murray River Walk and Murray River Safari tours.

Whether guests are self-proclaimed birders or not, the diversity of birdlife in this region is often a highlight on tour.

The SA Regent Parrot Recovery Team says regent parrot numbers are remaining steady, after a serious decline of up to 70 per cent in the 10 years to 2023.

Team chair Kevin Smith said population numbers were tracked by checking nest sites during breeding season between August and November.

"Last season, we were thinking because of the dryness of the Mallee, we might see a major decline in numbers fledging but in fact they were quite good," he said.

"We think we may be starting to turn the corner."

This is Australia, unhurried. 🇦🇺🌿

A river that slows your breathing.
Wetlands alive with birdsong.
River red gums lining the trail.

The Murray River Walk is quintessentially Australian — peaceful, grounding, and deeply immersive. It’s designed for those wanting to step away from the noise of busy city life and reconnect with nature, movement and stillness.

For nearly a decade, Murray River Trails has been guiding guests along this extraordinary river with care and curiosity. Led by founder and guide Tony Sharley, alongside Sam, Susie and their dedicated team, every walk reflects a genuine commitment to regenerative tourism and respect for place.

As they approach their 10th year of touring, the journey continues, with a second floating eco-houseboat now under construction and launching in 2026 — creating more opportunities to experience the Murray slowly, responsibly and in harmony with the environment.

If peace, escapism and authentic Australian nature are calling, this is a walk that answers.

Fantastic news on Australia Day. Congratulations former Renmark boy Andrew Fielke AM for being recognised for your significant service to the native food industry. Andrew has walked the talk for 40 years and he and Kay walked the walk with us in 2016. Since then he's delighted 1000s of guests as our Consultant Chef, helping our guides deliver world class menus with a native ingredient. Native cuisine has shone new light on Riverland wines paired with each dish, and the ingredients - farmed Murray cod, yabbies, saltbush and quandongs to name a few - help us tell the stories of a healthy Murray River. So well deserved Andrew and looking forward to more new tastes.
