We are looking to expand our network of qualified professionals for upcoming heritage projects in the Pilbara and wider North West region. If you are passionate about cultural preservation, looking for meaningful contract work, and want to work alongside local communities, we want to hear from you!

We are seeking Expressions of Interest (EOI) from independent consultants and specialists in the following fields:

Archaeologists (surveyors, excavation specialists, and technical report writers)

Anthropologists (cultural mapping, social impact, and Traditional Owner consultation)

Heritage Surveyors & Technicians

Cultural Monitors & Environmental Specialists

💼 What we are looking for:
Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent demonstrated industry experience

Experience working in regional/remote areas (experience in the North West / Pilbara is highly regarded)

A respectful, collaborative approach to working with Traditional Owners and local Aboriginal corporations

Strong report-writing skills and a solid understanding of relevant state heritage legislation

Ancient Aboriginal heritage and culture is everywhere around Karratha!

Today I spent the day with year 4 students from .primary.school showing them ancient artefacts, man-made hunting hides, rock art and spear making. It was a beautiful day on-country for it and I'll be repeating all again tomorrow.

Every lore time (initiation season) my people come and live out bush at our lore camp called Woodbrook which also used to be a sheep and cattle station. When we're out bush we live in these makeshift houses called a yutha or in English you might know them as a boughshed.

When I was young I used to live on a few stations around the Pilbara and we would always live in yutha's like this one. No electricity, no running water back in those days. We would either get water from windmill tanks or hand pumps that were installed into the ground water and we would use fire or oil lamps for light. My childhood was almost like living in the 1930s and 40s except we had access to modern vehicles to get around but horses were still used to muster animals.

My life growing up on stations taught me a lot and I was able to learn a lot of our traditional knowledge from my Elders too. I miss those simpler days of living in the bush!

Rock holes like this were extremely important for the survival of my people especially since we live in such an arid environment. Also important for the survival of the animals and enables all forms of life to thrive in desert conditions

"Standing Up for Aboriginal Tourism Through the Fuel Crisis"

WHAT THE PEAK BODIES ARE DOING (AND HOW TO BACK THEM)

"Who's fighting for tourism businesses right now?" --- **The industry isn't sitting still. Here's who's doing what and how you can support them.

** **QTIC** (Queensland Tourism Industry Council) has written directly to the Prime Minister with four demands:
•A nationally coordinated domestic tourism campaign
•Targeted financial support for high fuel-exposure businesses
•Fuel supply confidence on key travel routes
•A cross-portfolio Tourism Cost Pressures Taskforce

**ATIC** (Australian Tourism Industry Council) has backed the fuel excise cut and is pushing for regional travel messaging through Tourism Australia.

**WAITOC** (WA Indigenous Tourism Operators Council) ” the peak body for Aboriginal tourism in WA — is in direct partnership with Tourism WA under the Jina Plan and has a line to the WA Government's new Industry Support Working Group chaired by Deputy Premier Rita Saffioti.

**Tourism Council WA** is coordinating broader industry advocacy across the state.

**What you can do right now:**
1. If you're an operator contact your peak body and give them your numbers. Cancellations, lost revenue, increased costs. They need data to make the case.
2. If you're an advocate or consultant amplify their messaging. Share their statements. Tag your local MP. 3. If you're in government respond. The industry isn't asking for a bailout. They're asking for targeted, time-limited stabilisation. The more voices behind these asks, the harder they are to ignore.

Standing Up for Aboriginal Tourism Through the Fuel Crisis

Right now, Aboriginal tourism businesses are being pushed to the edge.

Fuel averaging $2.27/L unleaded and $3.12/L diesel. Booking cancellations stacking up. Operating costs up 50% for some operators in regional and remote Australia.

This isn't just a tourism problem. It's a community problem.

When an Aboriginal tourism business closes, it doesn't just mean one less tour. It means fewer jobs on Country. Less reason for young people to stay. Less income circulating through communities that already face significant disadvantage. And it means another piece of living culture that visitors will never get to experience.

The fuel crisis triggered by the Middle East conflict is compounding years of rising insurance, energy, labour and compliance costs. For businesses in places like the Pilbara, the Kimberley and Gascoyne where distances are vast and alternatives don't exist, it's an existential threat.

This is not the time for silence. If you work in tourism, advocacy, economic development or government, your voice matters right now.
