Come on down to keep the interest going. Lots of events still being cancelled so make the most of the hard work done by the committee. We need to keep as much entertainment in our area as possible.
ARIAT ARENA ACTION | Rodeo is returning to Scottsdale, Tasmania this weekend. And the community is ready to celebrate!
After nearly two years without a full-events rodeo being held in the State, the Santarena Park arena is set to come to life with rodeo action, local food vendors, community groups and rodeo fans on Saturday afternoon.
“It’ll be great to once again give local families somewhere to go, to enjoy life and enjoy rodeo,” said event spokesperson Ian Brown.
“Rodeo is about community, and our event brings together the Rotary Club, contractors from around the State, a dozen sponsors and so many different stakeholders – it’s a great opportunity to support and inject money into local businesses.”
A rodeo man since the early 1970s, Ian is excited to see a capacity crowd roll-in for this weekend’s event and amongst the line-up of Tassie and mainland entries will be three of Australia’s best cowboys, Larry Elphinstone, Ty King and Luke Hamilton, all hungry for a win after their recent competition at the 2021 Ariat APRA National Finals Rodeo.
“Our boy Ty King (pictured) didn’t win any rounds at The Finals but he placed second in the last round with a ride of 85 points – he can ride the tough ones, he’ll be one to watch,” said Ian.
Luke Hamilton is about as local, and as long-term cowboy as you’ll find – riding in rodeo since he was five or six years old, when he started out mutton-busting (or riding sheep) at the same Santarena Park arena.
“It was great to make The Finals, especially as they were held in Victoria, but to be able to get back to Scottsdale is going to be pretty good,” said Luke Hamilton.
“I’ve been coming here since I was a boy, the family would make a camping trip out of it every year – travelling in the old truck, messing about with mates, bucking steers.
“I just love the sport, always have, the good people, the competition and the opportunity to better yourself, against man and animal.”
Arena action for this COVID-safe event kicks off at 3pm rodeo fans. Hot tips for the best rodeo experience include the Rotary Club BBQ dinner followed by the famous, local cheesecake-icecream and then a dance under the stars with live music!
