🚧 Heading to Stanley? A quick heads-up!

Roadworks on the Stanley Highway begin Monday, 21 September, with upgrades taking place between West Inlet Track and Dovecote Road.

🚗 Expect reduced speed limits and single-lane closures between 7am–5pm, Monday to Friday, with up to 8 minutes of extra travel time.

🌊 Stanley is open and ready to welcome you! Just allow a little extra time and enjoy the journey through beautiful Circular Head.

ROAD CLOSED - between Crayfish Creek and Hellyer. Diversion in place, we have put the safest diversion route in a photo in the comments. Please note the diversion is a gravel road.

**Updated @ 4.10pm: The earlier crash is now cleared from Bass Highway, Edgcumbe Beach.

Police are investigating a serious crash on Bass Highway at Edgcumbe Beach in Tasmania's north-west today.

Emergency services were called to the scene about 12.30pm where a white Volvo truck and a white Holden Captiva had crashed.

The woman who was driving the Captiva was transported by Ambulance to the North West Regional Hospital in a serious condition.

Two passengers in the Captiva were also transported by Ambulance to the North West Regional Hospital. It is believed they had sustained minor injuries.

The driver of the truck was not physically injured.

Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing.

Damaging to locally destructive winds are impacting parts of Tasmania today as a strong cold front sweeps across the state.

Some of the highest winds gusts in the 24 hours to 9am AEST this morning include:
• 128km/h at King Island, Tas
• 126km/h at Maatsuyker Island, Tas
• 115km/h at Mount Read, Tas
• 111km/h at Scott's Peak, Tas
• 109km/h at Hartz Mountains, Tas
• 106km/h at kunanyi / Mount Wellington, Tas
• 102km/h at Low Rocky Point, Tas

A Severe Weather Warning for damaging winds is current for many areas of the state, with damaging winds expected today and early tomorrow morning.

The cold front is also bringing moderate to heavy rainfall to Tasmania's west coast, with 30mm to 50mm of rain recorded in some areas.

Conditions will ease briefly on Friday before another cold front sweeps across on Friday night and Saturday. More rain and strong to damaging winds are expected.

After a winter spent giving the chairlift its annual TLC, The Nut Chairlift is reopening, tomorrow - Thursday 3 September 2026!

That means it’s almost time to swap the walking boots for a scenic ride to the top and take in those incredible 360° views over Stanley, Bass Strait and the surrounding coastline. 🌊
