Bathurst Community Transport is a not-for-profit organisation that has been transporting the Bathurst Community since 1978. Bathurst Tours profits are reinvested into provision of subsidised transport services for aged and disabled clients for Bathurst Community Transport, so your enjoyable day out with Bathurst Tours enables Bathurst Community Transport to continue to provide much needed services for their beautiful clients.

Wander About Wednesday

Discover a piece of Portland’s industrial history brought to life through art with a visit to the Portland Silo Art, known as “The Foundations”.

Completed in May 2018, the Portland silos were the 20th installation added to the Australian Silo Art Trail. Renowned artist Guido van Helten transformed the old Portland Cement Works into a towering tribute to the people who helped shape the town’s industrial history.

The mural features six former Portland Cement Works employees — five men and one woman: Jack Abbott, Bert Boyling, Herb Coleman, Tommy Fitzgerald, Ernie Jeffree and Yvonne Hogan. Each portrait tells part of the story of the workers and families connected to the cement works, which played an important role in Portland’s development.

Rather than simply creating a colourful landmark, van Helten’s artwork celebrates the people behind the industry, turning the former cement silos into a remarkable outdoor gallery and a lasting tribute to Portland’s working history.

Escape into the spectacular wilderness of Kanangra-Boyd National Park this Wander About Wednesday.

Part of the Greater Blue Mountains Area World Heritage Property, Kanangra-Boyd National Park is renowned for its dramatic sandstone cliffs, rugged valleys and sweeping mountain views. One of its highlights is Kanangra Walls, where sheer cliffs create an unforgettable backdrop across the surrounding landscape.

There is plenty to discover beyond the lookouts, with walking trails leading through forest and along the park’s rugged terrain, as well as waterfalls, mountain biking trails and quiet camping spots at Boyd River. Keep an eye out for some of the park’s wildlife, including echidnas and lyrebirds.

Wander About Wednesday

Discover one of Bathurst’s oldest surviving buildings this Wander About Wednesday with a visit to the Old Government Cottage and Heritage Gardens.

Built around 1817, the cottage is one of the earliest European buildings in Bathurst and provides a fascinating glimpse into the region’s early colonial history. Originally constructed as a residence for government officials, it reflects the important role Bathurst played as the first inland settlement in Australia following European exploration beyond the Blue Mountains.

The cottage has been carefully restored and furnished to showcase life during the early 1800s, with displays highlighting the challenges, stories and daily experiences of the people who lived and worked in the region during this period.

Surrounding the cottage are beautiful heritage gardens, designed to complement the historic setting with traditional plantings, pathways and peaceful spaces to explore. Together, the cottage and gardens offer visitors the chance to step back in time and experience a unique piece of Bathurst’s heritage.
