Jennie Dicker, Owner/Manager of Earnest Arthur Travel + Cruise is strapping on her dancing shoes to support a cause close to her heart. Like so many, Jennie's loved ones have recently been affected by cancer which is the driving force behind her decision to take part in the Cancer Council Stars of Nowra.

We jumped at the chance to fundraise for such an important cause, where all money raised stays in the local area to assist in providing support to those affected by cancer.

🚨 IMPORTANT UPDATE 🚨

For passengers travelling through the Middle East this year, please note that airlines are currently offering flexible rebooking or refunds only for flights departing on or before the following dates:

✈ Etihad Airways – departures on or before 31 March26
✈ Qatar Airways – departures on or before 28 March26

✈ Emirates – departures on or before 31 March26

Passengers travelling within these timeframes have already been contacted with the latest airline updates. For travel after these dates, flights remain confirmed as scheduled. Should you wish to make changes now, standard airline rebooking fees and fare conditions will apply according to your ticket terms.

If you decide to cancel any land arrangements, tours, or cruise components, the usual supplier cancellation policies will also apply.

Please also note that travel insurance policies generally do not cover claims related to acts of war, civil unrest, or government-issued “do not travel” advisories.

Airspace over most Middle Eastern countries remains closed as of today, 5th March. Waivers are in place with the majority of airlines however dates vary from the 10th through to the 27th March. Please check with your individual airline as to which policy applies to you. Please note that these policies are fluid and often change by the hour.

Emirates are currently operating some repatriation flights, however these are very limited and are not open for general sale. The airline will contact you directly for space on these flights. DO NOT go to the airport as airports are closed except for those ticketed on operating flights.

Not a great Sunday for Travel Advisors.
I will be in the office today working on clients departing between now and 7th March. If your departure is after this date please be patient while we deal with the most urgent changes.

‼️The aviation landscape in the Middle East has shifted dramatically over the last few hours following US-Israeli strikes on Iran and subsequent retaliatory missile fire. Airspace across the heart of the Gulf is now effectively closed to commercial traffic.

🔴 Immediate Airspace Closures
The following countries have suspended all civilian flight operations and closed their airspaces:

Iran, Iraq, & Israel: Total closure following active military engagements.

United Arab Emirates (UAE): All airspace is closed. Authorities have issued shelter-in-place orders in some areas following missile interceptions.

Qatar & Bahrain: Airspace is closed. Alarms have been reported in Doha and Manama; all civilian traffic has been cleared.

Kuwait: Airspace is closed until further notice due to the regional security situation.

⚠️ Major Hub Impact
Dubai (DXB) & Abu Dhabi (AUH): Operations have come to an absolute standstill. Thousands of travelers are currently stranded. Most major carriers (Lufthansa, Wizz Air, Air India) have cancelled all flights to these hubs through at least March 7.

Doha (DOH): Air traffic is suspended. No flights are arriving or departing as Qatar Airways has officially grounded its home fleet until the situation stabilizes.

Riyadh & Jeddah (RUH/JED): Saudi airspace remains the only open corridor in the immediate region. It is currently handling extreme congestion as the sole North-Southeastern route for all global transit.

🗺️ Rerouting & Global Impact
The "Middle East Corridor" is currently impassable. Flights between Europe and Asia are being forced into massive diversions:

Northern Route: Through Central Asia and the Caucasus.

Southern Route: Circumnavigating the entire Arabian Peninsula via the Arabian Sea and Africa.

Flight Times: Expect increases of 4 to 8 hours on long-haul routes. Many flights are currently turning back to their origin airports mid-flight.

If you are going to the UK after 25th February 2026. The rules have changed and it will catch people out. If you have ever had a British or Irish passport but are now an Australian citizen you are a dual national and this new rule applies. This might help to clarify.

If you’re an Australian-British or Australian-Irish dual national, from 25 February 2026, there are changes to the passport and visa rules that apply to you when travelling to the UK.

If you’re a dual national, you must either:
• use your British or Irish passport to enter the UK. If your passport isn’t current or you don’t have one, you will need to renew or apply for one prior to travel; OR
• get a certificate of entitlement from GOV.UK, if you want to use your Australian (or another foreign country) passport and do not currently hold a British or Irish passport.

Dual nationals will no longer be able to:
• get an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) to enter the UK
• get a visa to enter the UK

You might not be able to board your flight to the UK if you do not have a British or Irish passport, or a certificate of entitlement.

If you are a dual national, check the requirements, arrange necessary documents, and make sure everything is ready before you travel.

Nairobi National Park in Kenya is one of the most unique wildlife parks in the world, located just 7 kilometres from Nairobi’s city centre. It is the only national park adjacent to a capital city, offering us an opportunity to experience a real African safari without leaving the urban environment. Spanning 117 square kilometres, the park is home to over 100 mammal species and 400 bird species, a perfect destination for wildlife lovers and photographers. Here we had a very good morning safari.

We also visited the Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage where from 11am - 12 noon, we were able to watch the orphaned elephants at their midday mud bath and milk feed. Oh, what fun!! There were 14 orphaned elephants of varying ages. After graduating from the Nursery, an orphaned elephant moves to one of our three Reintegration Units, which serve as launchpads to a life in back in the wild.

Later we dropped into the Giraffe Centre, which is a wildlife conservation facility located in Lang'ata, approximately 20 kilometres from the centre of Nairobi, Kenya. It was established to protect the vulnerable Rothschild's giraffe, that is found only in the grasslands of East Africa. The main attraction for visitors is feeding giraffes from a raised observation platform. The Giraffe Centre is also home to several warthogs which freely roam the area along with the giraffes.
