BOOK WITH CONFIDENCE

When you're comparing travel companies, price is only one part of the equation.

Here's a question worth asking:

Is the company accredited by the Australian Travel Industry Association (ATIA)?

If the answer is no, ask them why not.

ATIA Accreditation isn't automatic. Accredited travel businesses must meet strict industry standards, comply with a rigorous Code of Conduct, and demonstrate sound business practices.

Importantly, accredited businesses are also required to undergo an independent annual financial assessment as part of their accreditation renewal. If a company fails that assessment, its accreditation is withdrawn.

Why does that matter?

Because when you hand over thousands of dollars for a holiday, you want confidence that you're dealing with a travel company that has been independently assessed and is operating to recognised industry standards.

The importance of choosing an accredited travel business was highlighted by the recent collapse of AVG Travels, an unaccredited travel company. The collapse left many travellers thousands of dollars out of pocket, while some were reportedly stranded overseas with limited support and uncertain travel arrangements.

ATIA Accreditation provides an additional level of confidence. Accredited businesses are independently assessed, held accountable to higher standards, and must continue to meet those standards year after year.

ATIA Accredited businesses are also committed to higher service standards and provide access to a formal consumer complaint resolution process, including independent review if required.

When researching your next holiday, don't just compare itineraries and prices.

So make sure to ask if the company is ATIA Accredited.

If they're not, ask them why not.

The answer may tell you more than you think.
