𝗧𝗔𝗦𝗠𝗔𝗡𝗜𝗔 𝗙𝗔𝗖𝗧𝗦 😲📝

Tasmania tends to get skipped in favour of Australia's bigger names, but it's one of those places' clients come home raving about. A few things worth knowing about Australia's island state:

It sits around 250km south of the mainland, across the Bass Strait - but it's only just over an hour's flight from Melbourne, so it slots neatly into a wider Australia itinerary rather than being the detour people assume. ✈️

Most travellers picture a single island, but Tasmania is actually made up of 334 of them - which is part of why the coastline, cruising and sea kayaking are so good. 🌊

The whole state is home to just 573,000 people, spread across an island roughly the size of Ireland. That's the real draw: space, quiet, and scenery your clients won't be sharing with the crowds. 🌞

It's also where you'll find Australia's second and third oldest cities - Hobart (1804) and Launceston (1806). Both are packed with heritage architecture, waterfront markets and a food and w**e scene that punches well above the population. 🌿

𝗧𝗢𝗣 𝟰 𝗦𝗣𝗢𝗧𝗦 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗧𝗔𝗦𝗠𝗔𝗡𝗜𝗔𝗡 𝗪𝗜𝗟𝗗𝗟𝗜𝗙𝗘 🦘

Tasmania is one of the best places in Australia to see wildlife properly in the wild - no enclosures, just the real thing. Four spots worth pointing clients towards:

🐹 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗮 𝗜𝘀𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 - a car-free island off the east coast that's become a natural sanctuary. Wombats, Tasmanian devils and pademelons are regularly spotted on land, with birdlife, seals and dolphins offshore.

🐧 𝗕𝗶𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗻𝗼, 𝗣𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘂𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗟𝗼𝘄 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗱 - the go-to spots for little penguins, best seen on an evening tour as they come ashore at dusk.

🐻‍❄️ 𝗖𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗹𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻 - wombats and pademelons are common around the trails, and the lucky few might catch the elusive platypus. Dawn and dusk are the times to be out.

🦭 𝗕𝗿𝘂𝗻𝘆 𝗜𝘀𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝗮𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗣𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗹𝗮 - take to the water and cruise the waterways for seals, dolphins, whales and sea birds, all against some of the most dramatic coastline in the country.

𝗔𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗮'𝘀 𝗘𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝗮𝘀𝘁: 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗘𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝘀 🦘

There’s no single ‘best’ time to visit Australia’s East Coast – because the experience changes quite a bit depending on the season (and how far north you go!).

Here’s a quick guide to what each season brings 👇

☀️ 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿 (𝗗𝗲𝗰–𝗙𝗲𝗯)
This is classic Australian summer along the NSW coast – think Sydney in the sunshine, beach days, coastal road trips and long, warm evenings. Further north, Brisbane and the Gold Coast are hot and humid, with tropical-style summer storms. In Tropical North Queensland, it’s wet season, bringing higher humidity, tropical downpours and lush rainforest scenery.

🍂 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗺𝗻 (𝗠𝗮𝗿–𝗠𝗮𝘆)
A lovely time to travel the East Coast as the intensity of summer starts to ease. Sydney and the NSW coast are still pleasantly warm, while Brisbane and the Gold Coast become less humid as the season progresses. Further north, Tropical North Queensland begins transitioning towards its drier months – making late autumn a particularly nice time to explore.

❄️ 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 (𝗝𝘂𝗻–𝗔𝘂𝗴)
Winter is when heading north really pays off. Brisbane and the Gold Coast enjoy mild days and generally drier conditions, while Tropical North Queensland is warm, dry and much less humid – ideal for combining Cairns, the Great Barrier Reef and the rainforest. It’s also humpback season, as whales migrate north along Australia’s East Coast 🐋

🌸 𝗦𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 (𝗦𝗲𝗽–𝗡𝗼𝘃)
Spring brings warmer days back to Sydney and the NSW coast, while Queensland starts heating up again as summer approaches. It’s also a brilliant time for whale watching in NSW, with humpbacks making their southbound journey – and mothers and calves can be spotted travelling together along the coast 🐋

The key thing to remember? Australia’s East Coast doesn’t have one perfect season. Summer in Sydney can offer a completely different experience to summer in Cairns – and sometimes shifting the itinerary north or south is all it takes to make the most of your clients’ travel dates.

🌟 Mānawatia a Matariki! 🌟

Today, New Zealand celebrates Matariki — the Māori New Year, marked by the reappearance of the Matariki star cluster (known internationally as the Pleiades or Seven Sisters) in the crisp winter sky.

A time to remember those who have passed, celebrate the present, and look ahead with hope, Matariki is one of New Zealand's most meaningful cultural celebrations. Māori tradition recognises nine stars within the cluster, each with its own unique significance, with their brightness traditionally used to help forecast the season ahead. 🌌

Since 2022, Matariki has been an official New Zealand public holiday — the world's only national holiday based on an Indigenous lunar calendar. This year's theme, Matariki Herenga Waka ("The Gathering of Many Canoes"), celebrates communities coming together and moving forward as one. 🤝
