An expert led foray through Springbrook National Park gives first hand experience learning to observe, document and photograph fungi in the field.

Amanita muscaria (fly agaric) growing underneath Pinus elliottii in the Gold Coast Hinterland! 🍄🌲

This species is ectomycorrhizal with a range of exotic trees, growing predominately under Pinus radiata in the southern states. Despite being beautiful, culturally significant in other parts of the world, and having many uses, its presence here is a significant threat. A. muscaria has been documented jumping hosts to Eucalyptus and Nothofagus spp., creating competition for native ectomycorrhizal fungi that support our ancient forests. Not far away is a stand of ancient Antarctic beech trees (Nothofagus moorei) which have survived over 3000 years and support a variety of endemic ectomycorrhizal species, many of which have never been scientifically described.

Holy molybdites! Thank you infinitely to everyone who has shown support and helped get this operation off the ground. I am excited to announce my first official mushroom tours, starting from this weekend (APRIL 27/28) in the Gold Coast Hinterland!

The walks will focus on mushroom ecology, identification and documentation. They cater to both beginners and those who know the basics but want to level up their ID skills and get some expert tips.
