Em has just returned from a magical trip to Japan, exploring everything from the bright lights of Tokyo to the traditional streets of Kyoto — and of course, plenty of incredible food along the way!

From Osaka, Hiroshima and Miyajima Island, to Kyoto, Fushimi Inari, Nara, Arashiyama and Tokyo Disney, it was an unforgettable adventure packed with culture, history, food and a little Disney magic. ✨

💡 EM’S TOP JAPAN TIPS

📱 Apple Maps is a lifesaver!
Especially when navigating Japan’s train stations. It tells you which line to take, the platform, which carriage is best to board and even which station exit to use.

💴 Carry a mix of cash & card
Most places accepted cards, but there were still a few restaurants and smaller food spots that were cash only.

🎟️ Pre-book your activities
Popular experiences can sell out quickly, so if there’s something you really want to do, book ahead rather than risk missing out.

🗣️ Google Translate is your best friend
We found there was a lot less English than expected, particularly in smaller restaurants and local areas, so having Google Translate ready made things much easier.

⏰ Get out early!
Places like Osaka Castle and Meiji Shrine become much busier from around 10:30–11:00am, so an early start makes a huge difference.
