🐢Did You Know Theres’s FIVE Turtles Species In Sri Lanka

The five species of turtle found in Sri Lanka are the Green, Loggerhead, Hawksbill, Olive Ridley and Leatherback. Each species has its own nesting habits and preferences, but one thing they all have in common is that the adult females return to the same beach each time to nest.

In this post we don’t want to mention WHERE the beaches are, instead we want to share a cautionary note to those who do want the opportunity to engage with turtles whilst in Sri Lanka 🇱🇰

There are continuing reports of tourists touching turtles, sitting their children on their backs and holding them so they can take a selfie 🤳 with them.

It’s important to know that sea turtles are an ENDANGERED SPECIES and should not be touched under any conditions.

Natures way to rehydrate in Sri Lanka 🇱🇰

King coconut, locally known as “Thambili,” is a variety of coconut native to Sri Lanka.

It’s a bright orange, smaller coconut prized for its naturally sweet and refreshing water, making it a popular drink, especially in the tropical heat.

Unlike regular coconuts, king coconuts are cultivated specifically for their water, which is high in electrolytes and vitamins, making it a hydrating and nutritious option.

In Sri Lanka, it’s commonly sold by street vendors, who cut open the coconut on the spot for immediate consumption.

The flesh inside is soft and can also be scooped out and eaten.

The king coconut is considered a symbol of hospitality and wellness in Sri Lankan culture, reflecting the island’s tropical abundance.
