🎒 Hostel Hack #4: Save Money Like a Pro
Backpacking doesn’t have to break the bank! Here are some tips to stretch your budget while still making the most of your adventure:
✨ Cook your own meals. Hostel kitchens are great for whipping up affordable and delicious meals. Plus, it’s a chance to bond with fellow travellers!
✨ Check the free food shelf. Many hostels have a free food shelf stocked with items left behind by departing backpackers. You might find pasta, spices, or other essentials to save on groceries!
✨ Label your food clearly. Always label your food in the hostel fridge with your name, room number, and departure date so it doesn’t get used or thrown out.
✨ Take advantage of free activities. Many hostels offer free walking tours, yoga classes, or movie nights—perfect for exploring and relaxing without spending a dime.
✨ Use public transport. Skip the pricey taxis and ride shares. Buses, trains, and ferries are budget-friendly ways to get around and experience local life.
✨ Look for discounts. Always ask about student, group, or backpacker discounts on tours, attractions, and transport.
✨ Refill your water bottle. Staying hydrated is essential, and refilling at hostel water stations saves money and reduces plastic waste.
✨ Go for lunchtime deals. If you’re planning to eat out, lunchtime specials are often much cheaper than dinner menus—perfect for a budget-friendly treat!
