Would you feel safe transiting through Dubai, Doha or Abu Dhabi right now?

The Australian Government is under increasing pressure from travel industry leaders to review Smartraveller's current Level 4 "Do Not Travel" advice for major Middle Eastern transit hubs.

Dubai International Airport (DXB) recently became the world's busiest airport by seat capacity, handling 5.5 million seats in January 2026, ahead of Atlanta's 4.9 million. More than 150,000 Australians have travelled through Middle Eastern hubs in the past six weeks, with no major disruptions reported since March 16.

Australia seems to be now an outlier, as most countries have lower travel advisories in place for transit through the region. One proposal is to reduce the advisory for passengers simply transiting through major hubs such as Dubai, Doha and Abu Dhabi to Level 3 ("Reconsider Your Need to Travel"), while maintaining Level 4 warnings for destinations directly impacted by ongoing conflicts.

✈️ If you had the choice today, would you feel comfortable transiting through the Middle East on your way to Europe or elsewhere?

✅ Yes, I would travel as normal
⚠️ Yes, but I would be cautious
❌ No, I would avoid the region entirely

Tell us why in the comments.

✈️ Digital Arrival Cards Expand to Melbourne Airport

A smoother arrival experience is rolling out for international travellers, with the Australian Travel Declaration (ATD) now expanding to Melbourne Airport as part of the government’s pilot program.

Eligible passengers arriving on selected Qantas Airways flights from Auckland and Queenstown can now complete their incoming passenger declarations digitally through the Qantas app before landing.

Instead of filling out the traditional paper card, travellers receive a digital pass with a QR code to present on arrival to Australian Border Force and the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry.

The pilot, which first launched in Brisbane and later expanded to Sydney, is now entering its next phase in Melbourne — with more Qantas services expected to join soon.

💬 Question:
How easy do you think this will actually be for passengers in practice? A genuine time-saver, or just another step before you still queue at border control?

🌿 Why More Aussies Are Choosing the “Do Nothing” Holiday

For years, the perfect holiday meant doing more, more cities, more landmarks, more early alarms, more photos, more everything.

But that mindset is quietly changing.

A growing number of Australians, especially younger travellers, are now leaning into slow travel, staying longer in one place, planning less, and leaving space for spontaneity. In fact, around 44% are now most drawn to slower, more relaxed travel styles.

Instead of rushing through a checklist of must-sees, the focus is shifting toward something simpler (and arguably more powerful):
👉 coming home genuinely rested.

With burnout, constant connectivity, and always-being-“on” work culture becoming part of everyday life, holidays are increasingly seen as a rare chance to fully switch off, not just change location.

No tight schedules. No pressure to “make the most of it.” Just time to breathe, explore slowly, and actually be there.

🌊 The question is no longer “How much can I see?”
It’s becoming: “How do I want to feel when I come back?”

💬 What about you — do you prefer a packed itinerary or a slow, do-nothing style holiday where the best moments aren’t planned?

✈️ Looking for one of the best-value ways to get to Europe?
China Southern Airlines is quietly becoming a favourite for Aussie travellers!

With many weekly departures, generous 2-piece checked baggage, and easy one-stop connections via Guangzhou to cities like London, Paris, Amsterdam, Madrid, Frankfurt and more — it’s definitely worth a look 👀

Even better, Australians can now enjoy up to 30 days visa-free in China, plus eligible passengers may receive a FREE transit hotel or Guangzhou city tour during their stopover!

Then there’s Cantonese cuisine. The dim sum that shaped global yum cha, slow-roasted meats, hand-pulled wonton noodles, traditional tea house culture: all of it is reason enough on its own.

For Australian travellers, the path to Europe is increasingly a question of where to connect and which carrier offers the best value for the dollar.

HEADS UP, AUSSIE TRAVELLERS

🇹🇭Thailand has just slashed visa-free stays in HALF — and if you've got a 2026 trip booked, you need to read this. 👇

What's changed:Thailand has cut the standard visa-free stay from 60 days → 30 days for tourists from 90+ countries — including Australia. 🇦🇺

Why the crackdown? Thai authorities say it's about tightening borders and stopping a small number of foreigners misusing long stays for:
🚫 Drug offences
🚫 S*x trafficking
🚫 Illegal/unlicensed businesses

In short: clean up the bad apples, protect the genuine tourists. 🍎

📌 What this means for YOU:
✅ Planning a 1–3 week holiday? You're totally fine. 🏖️
✅ Extensions are still available — but now assessed case-by-case (no more rubber-stamping)
✅ Thailand is still 100% open for tourism — just with a tighter front door

⚠️ Long-stay travellers, snowbirds & digital nomads: start planning ahead 📝🌴

The good news? Thailand's beaches, temples, street food and island-hopping are all exactly where you left them.
Phuket. Koh Samui. Chiang Mai. Krabi. Bangkok. ❤️
