“Most businesses already understand what’s required. The challenge is operationalising it across the business in a way that’s accurate, easy and repeatable.”

One of the biggest climate reporting issues Cam is seeing? Businesses are still relying on disconnected systems, spreadsheets and retrospective processes that make visibility difficult and reporting unnecessarily complex.

Another common challenge is ownership. Climate reporting can’t sit with just one department anymore — finance, ESG, operations, and procurement all need to be aligned for it to work effectively.

There’s also a tendency to overcomplicate things early. Instead of trying to solve everything at once, Cam recommends starting with the areas that are measurable, controllable and capable of creating immediate impact.
