In the wilderness, knowledge is your map for survival.
An experienced Muslim hiker recently went missing in Kosciuszko National Park for nearly two weeks before being found. Several other hikers got lost in national parks recently. It can happen to anyone. That’s why we teach bush survival skills on our hikes: so participants are better prepared for future adventures.
On the guided hike in Sydney Harbour National Park last Sunday 9th February, we discussed bush navigation, clearing up misconceptions about using GPS, compasses and maps. We also discussed how to find the Qiblah (Islamic prayer direction) without a compass or phone. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, Alhamdulilah.
We then soaked in the beautiful views of Sydney Harbour, breathed in the fresh sea breeze, got a great workout and connected with amazing new people, all in the safe welcoming space we provide on our tours.
Halfway through the hike, we stopped for morning tea and reflected on Sheikh Mahmoud’s talk which sparked such deep conversations that our break extended into lunchtime.
This is just a glimpse of what a Dunya Escapes hike is about. With each hike, we aim to build confidence and skills, helping you feel safer and more comfortable when hiking with friends and family, all while ensuring a culturally and religiously safe experience.
Come along to our next Dunya Escapes hike to experience the difference for yourself!
This time, we will be exploring one of our most favourite hikes around Sydney. Stay tuned for the announcement!
A very special thanks and JZK to:
- Zaheer .ds for the incredible photography support
- Sheikh Mahmoud for the deeply reflective spiritual talk
