FTB Supplements 2025–26 | Express Forms by Lena
Please read this information carefully before asking questions.
FTB Supplements are annual payments that may be paid after the end of the financial year when your Family Tax Benefit is balanced. These supplements are separate from your regular fortnightly FTB payments and are designed to help offset any underpayments or overpayments that occurred during the year.
Many families receive overpayments because:
• Income estimates changed during the year
• Income estimates were lower than actual earnings
• Child support assessments changed during the year
In most cases, you must lodge your tax return or confirm your income with Centrelink before your FTB can be balanced and any supplement paid. Some families, however, will have their payments balanced automatically.
Automatic Balancing
Generally, FTB balances automatically in July for people who:
✅ Were single for the entire financial year
✅ Received an income support payment for the entire year
✅ Had no breaks in payment and no nil-rate periods
For these families, balancing is usually completed within 7 days of their regular FTB payment due between 2–15 July.
2025–26 Supplement Rates
👶 FTB Part A Supplement
Up to $938.05 per child
👨👩👧👦 FTB Part B Supplement
Up to $459.90 per family
These amounts are annual payments and are not fortnightly amounts.
Eligibility
FTB Part A Supplement
• Family adjusted taxable income must be below $80,000.
FTB Part B Supplement
• You must be eligible for FTB Part B.
Estimated Maximum Payments
1 Child
$938.05 + $459.90 = $1,397.95
2 Children
($938.05 × 2) + $459.90 = $2,336.00
3 Children
($938.05 × 3) + $459.90 = $3,274.05
When Payments May Be Reduced
Your supplement may be lower if:
• A child was under 1 year old during part of the financial year
• The child was not in your care for the full financial year
• Your care percentage was 65% or less
• The child left school or started receiving their own payment
• You received Paid Parental Leave (PPL) during the year
• You have an outstanding Centrelink or ATO debt
Children Under 1 Year Old
FTB Part A Supplement is generally paid on a pro-rata basis. The amount is calculated using the daily rate and the number of days the child was in your care.
Approximate entitlement:
• 1 month – $78
• 2 months – $156
• 3 months – $234
• 4 months – $312
• 5 months – $390
• 6 months – $469
• 7 months – $547
• 8 months – $625
• 9 months – $703
• 10 months – $781
• 11 months – $859
Shared Care
If your care percentage is 65% or less, the supplement is generally split according to each parent’s care percentage. The other parent may also receive part of the supplement if they are claiming FTB.
Paid Parental Leave (PPL)
If you received PPL during the financial year, your FTB Part B Supplement may be reduced because FTB Part B is not payable on PPL days.
Outstanding Debts
If you owe money to Centrelink or the ATO, any balancing payment or supplement may be used to reduce or clear those debts before any remaining amount is paid to you.
Tax Returns
Tax returns can be lodged from 1 July. However, many people benefit from waiting until late July to ensure income information has been fully pre-filled and processed.
If you were single and receiving income support for the entire year, it is often best to wait for automatic balancing before lodging your tax return.
