A day in Ohrid, Macedonia:

Start the day breakfast at your hotel – or perhaps find a local bakery and enjoy some crispy Burek. Your first stop is the historic Samuil’s Fortress offering incredible panoramic views of the surrounding city, Lake Ohrid and mountains beyond.

Get closer to the lake’s shore on a visit to the breathtaking St.Nuam Monastery. Surrounded by lush gardens and natural springs, it's known for its historical and religious importance and impressive Byzantine architecture.

Our favourite places in Croatia? Rovinj is up there for a reason. You’ll find the romantic and lovely town of Rovinj further north up the coast on the Istrian Peninsula.

It’s colourful streets look more Venetian than Croatian. But this is no surprise with Italy’s proximity to the Istria region. The town’s historic core is wrapped up around the towering hilltop church of St. Euphemia, a Baroque beauty that’s well worth the walk to visit. If you can, take the time to climb the bell tower for the incredible views. Be sure to also enjoy the delicious food scene here. Perhaps even enjoy a meal at the Michelin Star awarded restaurant Monte.

No December holiday in Europe is complete without a trip to the Christmas markets! 🎅 Here are some tips to help you make the most of the markets, and enjoy them to the fullest:

🦌 Check a market's official website for opening times, locations and schedules as they can significantly vary.

🎄 To avoid the largest crowds, visit during the daytime at midweek.

⛄ Make sure to have some cash to hand. Many stalls selling drinks take a deposit to ensure their cute festive mugs are returned. It’s ok to keep one though - you can even swap for a clean one once returned as a nice Christmas souvenir.

🎁 Don’t be afraid to try something new. These markets are a great place to try local foods from German potato pancakes to Glogg (Swedish mulled wine) to Hungarian chimney cake.

🤶 Ensure to layer up as you will be spending lots of time outdoors and it can get very cold. Braving the cold is worth it we promise – grab a hot drink to stay extra toasty. 🍷
