Scenes from Kos, a Dodecanese gem.

The stories of this lovely island stretch back over 5,000 years, including many cultures from the ancient Greeks and Romans, to the Ottomans and Venetians. In other words, the island is an absolute treasure trove for history buffs.

Here are some of our favourite places on the island:

Therma Beach: goats climb the cliffs and geothermal springs flow into the ocean here. The spring is actually located right on the pebbly beach - the closer you swim to it, the warmer the water gets.

Municipal Market of Kos: this lovely market hall has been standing since 1934 and still a thriving food hub for locals and visitors alike. Wander the halls and taste and buy local treats. Be sure not to miss krasotiri, a local goat cheese aged in red wine.

The Asclepieion: the ancient temple site of the Greek god of health and medicine, Asklepio. It's said that Hippocrates, the father of medicine, founded his school here.

Northern Lights season is just a few months away now...

In Scandinavia and Iceland, the Aurora Boralis shines brightest between late September and late March - clear, dark nights make for the best chances of spotting them.

Thanks to science and a nifty phenomenon known as the solar maximum, this season is set to be one of the best in over a decade! It's a period of increased solar activity that happens every 11 years, creating brighter, more brilliant and more frequent displays of the lights. Neat right? 🤓
