Here's the Eastern Gate to the Hà Nội Citadel, first as it was in the late 19th century and as it is today. The French attacked this gate to gain entry to the Citadel, blasting it with cannon fire and destroying either side of the main gate. These days the water hole in front of the gate has gone and a major road sits where it was.
