This week marks the end of my time with NSW Health and the Close Contact Tracing Team after 21 months. And what a journey it has been. I am honoured to have been a part of something that will go down in history.
With no experience in the Health sector, myself and many of my Aviation and Tourism colleagues were called upon to utilise our transferable skills to assist NSW Health in the fight to beat Covid-19. From starting as a Contact Tracer, to Team Leader, and then to managing the specialist ‘Escalations Team’ for 18 months and finally Team Leader of the ‘Case Allocation Team’, these roles have been like nothing I have experienced before!
There have been many challenging situations while we constantly adapted to an ever evolving pandemic. There were many long days, many late nights, and so many ups and downs with each new variant that evolved, but the most valuable experience of all was the people I met and worked with along the way while doing our best to save Christmas’s, Easter’s, all the while keeping NSW safe in between.
I have learnt so much and can’t wait to take these experiences back to my travel career! A few special mentions:
Carolyn Murray - Thank you for trusting me with creating and managing the Escalations Team – it was an honour and a privilege I’ll never forget, where we dealt anything and everything that could not be resolved in that initial call. Your leadership in managing the Contact Tracing Team in a calm way in such chaotic times was inspiring and our team always felt heard and supported.
Ashleigh Armanasco - My mentor and friend who was instrumental in helping manage a team through any crisis, thank you for reassuring us when we weren’t so sure and for being our voice of reason. I will always be in awe of your leadership, it was an honour working with you.
To my ‘Esky’ Team – We’ve been part of an experience we’ll never forget and navigating this crazy, chaotic experience wouldn’t have been possible without you amazing people. I walk away with lifelong friends and I’m proud to have worked alongside you all.
And to rest of the Contact Tracing and Specialist Teams, there are too many of you special people to mention here, thank you for your support along the way, it didn’t matter our backgrounds, we all got in there together and got the job done.
Next week I return to the Travel Industry full time and to my Business Tammy Savill – 1000 Mile Travel, which I can't believe turns 6 tomorrow!
Tourism was one of the hardest hit industry’s throughout the pandemic, and after a few false starts there is a real positive vibe amongst us all now that . I can’t wait to reconnect with clients and get back to doing what I love.
Please do reach out if you need assistance with any of your travel needs.
