You walk through the trees and slowly the stones begin to appear.

Carved monuments rise from the landscape. Ancient plazas open before you. Every surface seems to hold a story, rulers, gods, ceremonies, astronomy, ambition.

Welcome to Copán.

Tucked into the hills of western Honduras, this was once one of the great cities of the Maya civilisation. More than a thousand years ago, it was a centre of learning, artistry and political influence. Today, its remarkably preserved carvings and temples offer an extraordinary window into that world.

The Hieroglyphic Stairway alone is enough to stop you in your tracks, a staircase covered in thousands of glyphs recording the history of Maya rulers and dynasties.

But perhaps the most surprising part of Copán is the atmosphere. There is a calmness here. Fewer crowds. More space to linger. More opportunity to notice the details.

The weathered expressions carved into stone. The surrounding forest. The feeling that history here is not behind glass, but woven into the landscape itself.

An archaeological site that deserves far more recognition.

Imagine walking through the ceremonial gateway of ancient Babylon.

The Ishtar Gate, built over 2,500 years ago, was designed to impress. Deep blue glazed bricks, lions, dragons and bulls lined one of the most famous entrances of the ancient world.

Yet many people are surprised to discover that this extraordinary monument can be seen today not in Iraq, but reconstructed inside Berlin’s Pergamon Museum.

It is one of those museum visits that makes history feel tangible, while also prompting wider questions about heritage, archaeology and where the world’s great artefacts belong.

A vast landscape shaped by time, wind, and silence.

Charyn National Park in southeastern Kazakhstan unfolds as one of Central Asia’s most striking natural formations. Its most famous section, the Valley of Castles, reveals towering sandstone structures carved over millions of years into shapes that resemble ancient fortifications, spires, and watchtowers. As light shifts across the canyon floor, the colours deepen from burnt orange to deep ochre, constantly reshaping the mood of the landscape.

Beyond the canyon, the park stretches into a wider world of contrast, sweeping steppe, river valleys, and dramatic ridgelines that feel both remote and untouched. It is a place where scale becomes difficult to comprehend, and silence feels almost physical.

Charyn is not a destination of spectacle alone, but of stillness, a reminder of how powerful the natural world can be when left to its own rhythm.

Stone rooftops cascading down a mountainside, Ottoman-era houses, cobbled laneways and a fortress watching over it all.

Gjirokaster, in southern Albania, is a city that feels suspended between past and present. Often called the “City of Stone”, its beautifully preserved architecture and rich cultural history offer a glimpse into a different rhythm of life.

Wander its winding streets, linger in traditional cafes, and discover why this lesser-known Balkan gem quietly leaves such a lasting impression.

Imagine a place where umbrella-shaped trees bleed red sap, cliffs plunge into turquoise seas, and the landscape looks as though it belongs in science fiction rather than on Earth.

Welcome to Socotra Island.

Remote, mysterious and remarkably biodiverse, this island remains one of the world’s most extraordinary natural wonders, a place that rewards curious travellers seeking the beautifully unexpected.

You arrive in Nicaragua expecting volcanoes, colonial streets and dramatic landscapes.

What you don’t expect is that one of your strongest memories will come from sitting around a family table.

The smell of home-cooked food drifting from the kitchen. Conversations carried through broken Spanish, gestures and laughter. Stories shared over coffee grown on nearby hillsides. Children coming and going. Dogs wandering through the yard. Daily life unfolding, unscripted and wonderfully ordinary.

This is the side of travel that rarely makes the brochure cover.

Not watching culture from the outside, but stepping quietly into somebody else’s world for a moment.

Spending time with a local family in Nicaragua is more than an experience. It’s an invitation into traditions, routines, perspectives and hospitality that no guidebook can truly capture.

Because sometimes the most immersive part of travel isn’t what you see.

It’s being welcomed in, pulling up a chair, and feeling, even briefly, less like a visitor and more like part of the story.

You’re standing shoulder to shoulder with strangers in the heart of Mexico City.

Music drifts down the street before the parade even appears. Then suddenly, the avenue erupts into colour.

Painted faces. Giant skeleton puppets swaying above the crowd. Flowers everywhere. Children laughing. Grandparents watching. Cameras clicking. Smoke, drums and celebration rolling through the city.

It would be easy to think it’s simply a festival.

But then you begin to understand the stories behind it.

The Day of the Dead is about remembering those who came before us. Not quietly or solemnly, but loudly, beautifully and together.

There’s something powerful about witnessing a culture that honours memory not with silence, but with colour, music and life.

Some travel experiences entertain you.

Others stay with you long after the journey ends.

Like a landscape sculpted from fire itself, Mongolia’s Flaming Cliffs rise dramatically from the vast emptiness of the Gobi Desert.

Their rich red sandstone glows intensely in the late afternoon light, earning the cliffs their unforgettable name.

But beyond their beauty lies an extraordinary story. These cliffs became internationally famous after the discovery of dinosaur fossils and some of the world’s first dinosaur eggs, transforming this remote corner of Mongolia into one of palaeontology’s most important sites.

Ancient, rugged, and remarkably atmospheric, the Flaming Cliffs capture the sense of scale and remoteness that makes Mongolia unlike anywhere else on earth.

A destination where geology, history, and wilderness converge.

Like a giant emerald staircase climbing towards the clouds, Vietnam’s rice terraces are landscapes that leave a lasting impression.

Carved into mountainsides over generations, these remarkable terraces represent far more than natural beauty. They tell a story of ingenuity, community, and living in harmony with challenging terrain.

Throughout the seasons, the landscape constantly changes, vibrant green during the growing months, golden during harvest, and mirror-like after seasonal rains.

For travellers seeking more than iconic sights, Vietnam’s northern highlands offer a journey into landscapes where culture, agriculture, and everyday life remain deeply connected.

Beautiful to photograph. Fascinating to understand. Unforgettable to experience.
