Reconciliation Week Event – Wednesday 28th May at 6pm

Join us for this special ‘Reconciliation Week’ event for a chance to hear an extraordinary local Elder’s story and to better understand the experience of growing up Aboriginal in Hornsby.
Hornsby Shire Libraries in collaboration with Hornsby Area Residents for Reconciliation (HARR) are proud to present a powerful audio recording of the memories of local Dharug elder, Aunty Edna Watson.

You will enjoy a deep listening experience as Aunty Edna recounts the truth about her experience of growing up Aboriginal in the Hornsby Shire. Her moving and powerful story is one that should be shared.
Aunty Edna faced racism and discrimination as a child and it wasn’t until she discovered her Dharug roots and culture as an adult, that she became proud of her ancestry.
During more than 20 years' association with Hornsby Shire Council and HARR, Aunty Edna became increasingly esteemed and respected for her dignity, advice, cultural leadership and contribution to Reconciliation.
Aunty Edna was recently recognised with an Order of Australia (OAM) for her extraordinary service to the Indigenous community of New South Wales.
