🐦 Far Eastern Curlew Homecoming Celebration

On Sunday 11 October celebrate the return of the magnificent Far Eastern Curlew, the world's largest migratory shorebird, following its incredible 11,000-kilometre journey from above the Arctic Circle to Port Hacking.

This free community event brings together bird lovers, families, conservationists and the local community for a day of discovery, learning and celebration.

📅 Sunday 11 October
🕗 8.00am - 4.30pm
📍 Bundeena Community Centre & Bonnie Vale shoreline, Royal National Park

What's on: 🐦 Expert-led bird walks along the Port Hacking shoreline
🌿 Learn about the shorebirds that visit and live on our coast
🪶 Hands-on activities for children, including examining real bird wings, bones and feathers
🎭 Make your own curlew puppet
🎲 Play the Great Knot Journey board game
🎤 Expert panel discussion on shorebird habitats and conservation (12.30pm)
🖤 Cultural walk across the tidal flats of Deeban Spit with an Indigenous Elder at low tide

🌺 The camellias are in bloom!

Now is the perfect time to visit the award-winning E.G. Waterhouse National Camellia Gardens in Caringbah and experience a spectacular seasonal display of colour.

Recognised by the International Camellia Society as a Camellia Garden of Excellence, the gardens are one of only 60 worldwide to hold this prestigious title, and one of just two in NSW.

The gardens are the perfect destination for a leisurely stroll, picnic with family and friends or a coffee at The Jade Teahouse.

As you explore, you'll also discover a rich history and an important habitat for local wildlife, including the Powerful Owl and Grey-headed Flying Fox. To help protect these resident species, dogs and other animals are not permitted in the gardens.
