Check this out - these are how the world’s most famous and fabulous pistachios are grown in Bronte Sicily in the crunchy black lava of Mt Etna.
This is our guide Placido and this is the pistachio farm he grew up on .. always the peak of the volcano in the distance and the ever-present rumbles that may be thunder or the earth underneath.
It’s remarkable .. these trees growing wild in this inhospitable landscape, no irrigation, the pickers having to clamber down into gullies to harvest.
We have great respect for the work your family does Placido and the access you gave us to this highly sought after DOP product .. I Lochi processes on the farm .. we so appreciate the access you gave our group. Thank you!

So so happy being back in Australia with my cheese-loving grandaughter .. and the delight of visiting our friends Dorothy and Helen Paesanella Haberfield .. signs of an early pecorino addiction for Ophelia. And we have supplies for big sister and mum and dad.
This is one of our favourite stops on our Gourmet Safari in Haberfield… in fact they’re all favourite… but this place is a dream!

Gourmet Safaris turns 28 today.. and what a wonderful magic carpet its been … I wanted to share with you this tribute in poetry from our Sicily and Malta group this year..
Utterly charming.
The experiences we have, the people who join us, the hosts who welcome us… so special.

Thank you to our guests, our hosts, our many guides and our office manager Suzy Brien for making it all happen so seamlessly.
This was a warm evening in Gozo on a pretty rooftop .. last evening of a 2 week tour. Thank you to writers Andrew and Leonie and performers. What a gift! Joy!

One of our favourite safaris in Sydney takes place in the home of the Hashimi family.. and as Tamim fires up the barbecue to cook marinated chicken and lamb (we call him the Afghan Huey as he has a resemblance to chef Ian Hewitson) , we always have a thought about how incredible it would be to be their neighbours…
Those cooking smells make your knees weak!
Tamim’s wife Nabila shares the recipe for the national dish Kabuli pulao as well as as a meltingly golden eggplant dish borani bademjan.
And there’s dessert too … their son Abdullah showing the cardamom scented sheer pira.
And that’s just part of the day!
We also visit spice shops, bakeries, sweet shops and a butcher shop as part of our big Afghan day.

We have spaces on Saturday 15th of August.
