🐟✨ Nature's spa day — and you're invited to watch.
There's something truly magical about witnessing a Reef Manta Ray glide into a cleaning station and surrender completely to a team of tiny cleaner fish. At Lady Elliot Island, this scene plays out regularly — and it never gets old.
But this isn't just beautiful to watch. It's vital to the health of these incredible animals.
For marine megafauna like mantas and sharks, cleaning stations are essential pit stops. Cleaner wrasse meticulously remove parasites, dead skin, and bacteria — even venturing inside mouths and gill slits. Without these visits, parasites can build up, cause infections, and seriously impact their long-term health. These little fish are, quite literally, lifesavers.
XAs divers, we're privileged to witness these moments. But with that comes responsibility:
🚫 Never approach or hover over a cleaning station
🚫 Don't chase animals as they leave
✅ Stay calm, still, and keep a respectful distance
✅ Let the interaction complete naturally
The best underwater encounters are the ones where the animals barely notice you're there. Give them the space they deserve, and they'll reward you with memories that last a lifetime.
