I have been a bit quiet for month of may so far but here is what I have been up to.
1. Still doing physio from when I fractured my tibial plateau and tore meniscus while in Singapore
2. Husband had work accident and is currently on crutches and off work at least till end June adding more doctors and physio visits
3. Thought I would try to defy gravity and fell backwards off a small stair case landing, breaking my arm. Spent 5hrs in hospital ed getting bone put back in place only to get X-ray 3 days later to see that it didn't stay where it was meant to.
Two days later saw Ortho surgeon.
Am now booked in for surgery this Thursday.
I love my gp and physio but boy am I looking forward to when we are not seeing one or both every week 🤣🤣
But you know what......things could be much worse. We laugh about the sight we must look when out together.
One lady even stopped us in the supermarket and said "sorry for asking, but were you both in a bad accident"?
We laughed and said, "no, 3 separate incidents"
Bones and muscles will all eventually heal.
We may have injury bad luck at the moment but overall, we are so lucky.
We have a beautiful family, have just welcomed grandbaby no 3 to this world and welcoming grandbaby no 4 in about a month.
Honestly, what more could we ask for. ❤️

Here is a quick run down on Ayres Rock Resort if you are thinking of visiting Uluru.
There are multiple accommodation styles to choose from. Starting from the campground, Outback Lodge which is shared hostel-style accommodation, The Lost Camel Hotel (rooms don't have windows), Outback Hotel, which is where I stayed, Desert Gardens Hotel and Sails in the Desert. For families, they also have the Emu Walk Apartments.
The Outback Hotel was fabulous. It is their mid-range property. Room was comfortable and spacious, nice pool area, good bar with live music most nights, good selection at the breakfast buffet, food at the kiosk was of high quality and varied. I was talking to some people who were staying at Sails in the Desert (this is the 5* upmarket accommodation) and they said the food at the kiosk at Outback Hotel was much better than at Sails. I didn't eat in the restaurant so I can't comment on this.
Ayres Rock Resort is basically one big circle, and they offer a free shuttle bus service taking you to all the various shopping, sightseeing and accommodation places in the resort. At first glance, it seems like everything is so spread out. In the middle there is a large plot of land, basically dirt with some shrubbery. It has a slight mound in the middle so you cant see to the other side which adds to the impression that nothing is within walking distance. In fact, you can go from The Outback Hotel, walk across this dirt section, take a scenic stop at a lookout point and get to the shops all within an easy 15-20min. It is much closer than you think.
There is an IGA, a few food outlets/restaurants and souvenir shops.
They also have a whole heap of free activities. I was there for 3 nights and did not have enough time to do all the free things that I would have liked.
Honestly, with a combination of sightseeing tours, or, if you have your own car, driving around to see all that makes up Uluru and surrounds then add the free activities, you can easily fill in 5nights here.
Best time to go to avoid the heat is Spring/Autumn. Winter is also good but the nights get very cold so rug up if you are doing any early morning or night activities. In summer, you will experience extreme heat, so this time is not recommended unless you love 40degree plus days on a regular basis.
Overall, it was a wonderful experience and would definately recommend going.
Have you been to Uluru? Where did you stay?
Thinking of going? Give me a call to chat.
It was a wonderful experience.

Where will you find your next "amazing moment"
Will it be witnessing the beauty of wildlife in a far off country?
Will it be relaxing in a bath while overlooking mountains?
Will it be at a mesmerizing waterfront location?
Or maybe it will be the time you spend with you friends and family this weekend.

Travel, just like life is amazing.
It isn't because it is perfect, we all know that not everything always goes to plan. It is about being flexible and realising that a changed plan just means new opportunities and adventures.
It is amazing because of all the moments in between the perfection..
So remember, keep smiling, keep laughing, keep enjoying your life and your travels.

Look ahead, you never know what adventure is waiting for you

Pretty much every time I travel, I try to include a travel "first". Visiting a new city, trying a different food, doing a different experience. In my last trip, I even did the first of having to visit a local hospital while overseas.
It doesn't matter how old you are, or even how well travelled, the feeling of a "first" is the same. That mix of nerves and excitement. The moment when you realise that you actually did it, when you stepped outside your comfort zone, when you escaped everyday, when you realised that you are capable of so much.
Some of the "firsts" which I have yet to experience are seeing a moose cross the road in Alaska, see the northern lights from Finland, spend the night in a desert Bedouin and go white water rafting.
I can only hope that I am lucky enough to continue to travel and continue to experience my "firsts"
What is a "first" that you are longing to experience?

There can be so many "firsts" when travelling.

It could be your first flight, your first cruise, the first time you travel solo or even the first time you travel with your partner.
It could be the first time trying a local dish, or doing something that you have previously been afraid to do like a hot air balloon ride, snorkeling, bungee jumping, you get the drift.
It could be the first time you travel with kids or without kids, or the first holiday to celebrate your retirement.

If you are in the middle of planning your travel "first", grab hold of it, embrace the sense of excitement and/or trepidation, breathe and make every moment count. Afterall, you always remember your "first"

What was your most memorable travel "first"?
