It was great to be back at South Eveleigh Precinct today with a couple of our guides for a behind-the-scenes tour of the blacksmiths workshop with Matt - who has been the onsite blacksmith at Eveleigh Works for the past decade.

Fascinating to learn about the steam powered and hydraulic machines that skilled workers used to build and maintain NSW’s locomotive and rail networks 140 years ago.

A great place to visit if you want to understand more about Sydney's industrial heritage as well as trying gourmet food, artisan gelato, craft beer and coffee roasted on site.

Have you discovered Dancers' Alley in Sydney yet?

We found it on the way into the Convention Centre in Darling Harbour today and thought it was cool how a bold architectural choice to place curved mirrors on the side of a building ended up be an activation space for performers.

The alley is also known as Moriarty Walk.

Yesterday I caught up with the dynamic Ben from Stamford Plaza Sydney who took me on a private tour of the 315 room hotel and their amazing Argentinian restaurant La Boca Bar and Grill. The kitchen is asador - an authentic Argentine wood-fired grill delivering slow-cooked, succulent meats.

As a local tour guide working with international travellers sometimes things can get lost in translation but on one recent tour I really had to swallow the dagger!

The concierge team at Sydney Harbour Mariott put me in touch with an older American couple for what was supposed to be a half-day 'private' tour of Sydney.

Unfortunately the couple misheard the concierge (with his strong accent) and thought they were booking a 'pirate' tour of Sydney.

When I turned up the wife seemed disappointed I wasn't dressed up and didn't greet them with 'ahoy!'. When I explained I am a 'private' tour guide and not a 'pirate' tour operator she said - 'oh well just play along, my husband is completely blind anyway but loves pirate history and stories so just pretend to be a pirate and show us around Sydney'

So for the next 4 hours I was Captain Jack and took them to see the Dunbar shipwreck at Watsons Bay, the Endeavour at the National Maritime Museum and a drive across the Sydney Haaaaaarrrrbour Bridge.

All part of giving guests a fun day out and meeting expectations...... : )

Last night we were invited to celebrate the opening of the Archibald, Wynne and Sulman Prizes at the Art Gallery of NSW.
