Photo dump of our game drives in Botswana & Zimbabwe. So many animals ~ hundreds of elephants & hippos! We were so lucky to see the elusive leopard on our last game drive. He was magnificent! The most amazing experience!

One of the Natural Wonders of the World, and easy to see why!! This was truly a magnificent experience to see the gorgeous Falls up close, and we were also lucky to see them from above during a helicopter flight over the gorge. Just spectacular!!

You can see the spray of the Falls from miles away, and when you’re close to them, you can hear the roar! The locals call them The Smoke That Thunders!!

They warned us we would get wet, and they weren’t wrong!! You can be standing by one of the many lookouts, then the wind changes, and it’s all of a sudden raining bucketloads!! It was so much fun!

The helicopter flight was 12 minutes long, and loops over the falls a few times so you can see them from numerous angles. Such an awesome sight!

Anyone visiting Africa - put this on your list!

We stayed a night in this beautiful resort. The elephants just wander around the place , and all come to drink at the watering hole which is right in front of the resort’s restaurant. So amazing to watch them just chilling out, while you’re eating breakfast or dinner

You can’t leave your room at night or wander around after dark without a resort guide, as all sorts of animals walk about. We were woken up at 5am by lions roaring right outside our room!

First day of my Africa trip. We had a guided tour by Tuk-tuk around Soweto. Amazing history of Nelson Mandela & Desmond Tutu.
We also learned about Lebo Malepa, who started selling guided tours of Soweto to tourists. It grew into a thriving business and is now a backpackers hostel, as well as running guided bicycle and Tuk-Tuk tours. He helped many of the locals to find employment and encourages giving back to the community. He sadly passed away in 2021 from Covid, but his legacy lives on.

We were treated to an amazing home-cooked lunch, with traditional foods and accompanying music.

Soweto is a huge area in Johannesburg which unfortunately still has a lot of poverty. But all the kids we saw along the way were so happy and friendly, waving to us and giving us hugs while we walked around.

It was definitely an eye-opening experience. We who live in first world countries really do not appreciate all the luxuries we take for granted.

We also saw Nelson Mandela’s house where he lived until he was arrested and thrown into prison. It has now been turned into a museum.
