The Territory is made up of people from all walks of life, different backgrounds and different journeys. Some were born here, some arrived chasing adventure, connection or a new beginning. But it’s the Territory spirit that keeps us all here.

This 1 July, we’re celebrating the communities, cultures and stories that make the NT what it is, welcoming and proudly unique.

Southern Rockhole is a seasonal waterfall located on the Windolf walking track to Pat’s Lookout in Nitmiluk Gorge.

The walk to the Rockhole is about 4 km one way from Nitmiluk Centre, or you can take the ferry from the visitor centre and walk the short but rocky access track. There are fantastic views of the waterfall and the surrounding sandstone escarpment.

The waterfall dries up early in the dry season and swimming is only open seasonally.

The walk is grade 3 - moderate. The track can be rough and steep in sections and some bushwalking experience is recommended.

A Top End teenager has reeled in the most lucrative catch in Australia, winning the Northern Territory’s Million Dollar Fish competition.

Keegan Payne, a 19-year-old from the rural town of Katherine, today becomes the NT’s newest millionaire, after snagging the Million Dollar Fish on the Katherine River.

The competition, which is paid out by sports gambling company Sportsbet was set up in a bid to lure tourists and fishers to the NT Top End in the quieter wet season months.

As well as the Million Dollar Fish, eight tagged barramundi worth $10,000 each have also been snagged this season.

Karlu Karlu / Devils Marbles Conservation Reserve is a protected area located 105 km south of Tennant Creek and 393 km north of Alice Springs.

The Devils Marbles are located in the traditional country of the Warumungu, Kaytetye, Alyawarra and Warlpiri people. They call the Devils Marbles Karlu Karlu, which literally translates as ‘round boulders'.

You can camp at the reserve overnight for the memorable scene of the marbles glowing red and changing colour in the early morning light and setting sun.

The historic Blyth Homestead is found in Litchfield National Park.

The homestead site serves as a reminder of the tough conditions faced by pioneers in remote areas.

Built by the Sargent Family in 1929, who also built and operated a tin mine nearby, the homestead was abandoned in the early 1960s. It has recently been restored and an interpretive display presents the trials and tragedies of this remote site.

Please note that access to the homestead is by four-wheel drive only and is regularly inaccessible between November and April due to the tropical season.
