If you spot our new RIB ‘Coastie” out on the water over the next few weeks we are transporting crews from the University of Newcastle undertaking environmental monitoring of our coastline with Central Coast Council. It is the most comprehensive research of its kind in our area.
👀🌊 Seen this research vessel offshore recently? Here’s what it’s all about…
The Central Coast has ocean outfalls at Winney Bay, Norah Head and Wonga Point, where treated wastewater is safely released into the ocean.
Our new Ocean Outfall Water Quality and Benthic Process Monitoring Program sees us teaming up with the University of Newcastle to study water quality and ocean life around these areas, helping us better understand our coastal environment.
The yearlong study began in January and will be repeated every five years to provide long-term data, adding to existing monitoring that helps keep our community and coastline healthy and safe.
