At Girrakool Blues, we’ve always believed that strong community partnerships are the foundation of everything we do.

That’s why we want to encourage everyone to get behind and support local businesses, especially during these challenging economic times. Our local businesses sponsor our events, support community groups, employ local people, and help keep our region thriving.

In particular, we want to acknowledge and thank Six String Brewery, our major sponsor, who has stood alongside Girrakool Blues since day one. Their unwavering support since the festival’s inception has helped us grow into the event we are today, and we are incredibly grateful for their continued commitment.

Now is the time for our community to return that support. Whether it’s enjoying a meal, catching up with friends over a locally brewed beer, or simply choosing local whenever you can, every dollar spent with local businesses makes a difference.

Please join us in supporting the businesses that support our community. Thank you, Six Strings Brewery, for believing in Girrakool Blues from the very beginning and for continuing to stand with us through these difficult times.

John Hammond wasn’t just a remarkable musician — he was the first award-winning blues legend our Festival directors ever toured. That experience shaped so much of what followed. Bruce often said that touring with John felt like “touring with God.” That’s the level of reverence, presence, and pure authenticity John carried with him everywhere he played.

A true torchbearer of traditional blues, John dedicated his life to preserving and performing the music in its rawest, most powerful form. His guitar/Harmonica work, unmistakable voice, and deep respect for the roots of the genre made him one of the most important figures in modern blues. His influence stretched across generations, inspiring musicians and captivating audiences worldwide.

This is a significant loss to the entire blues community. Legends like John don’t just perform the blues — they are the blues. His passing leaves a space that cannot be filled, but his music will continue to speak, teach, and move us for years to come.

If you don’t know who he was, you owe it to yourself to check him out. Listen. Learn. Feel it.

Rest easy, John. Thank you for everything. 🎸
