Cedar Cabin took a little pause last season.

Time to rest. Reset. Let the mountains do their thing.

Shal’s mural anchors the space. Furniture chosen slowly, meant to be lived in. Windows framing Thredbo in every mood — storm days, bluebird mornings, everything in between.

Cedar Cabin is back, quietly reopening its doors at The Eastern Thredbo Village.

Our artist-in-residence, Shal, spent his first day in Thredbo exploring the area. From taking the lift to the top of the mountain, down to the banks of the Thredbo River, and on to Dead Horse Gap to experience the sunset.

From this location, you can see down to Victoria on one side and the Thredbo Valley on the other, with the winding Thredbo River snaking through in the middle. It’s a local favourite.

A few months back Cedar Cabin hosted an artist in residence to create an artwork inspired by it’s architectural design history and the landscape of the Snowy Mountains.

Shaun Daniel Allen (Shal) is a Bundjalung artist whose work has been exhibited in Sydney’s China Heights Gallery and most recently in Louis Vuitton’s Brisbane flagship store. His work is informed by a connection to water and country, making him the perfect resident for Cedar Cabin, on the banks of the Thredbo River.
