With its distinctive wave-shaped roof and absence of right angles, the striking 2,150-square-foot building served for decades as both home and studio, where the couple lived and created alongside each other. Self-designed in collaboration with an engineer friend, the open-plan space is lined with seamless rows of windows, connecting it with its natural surroundings. The Kukkapurosโ daughter and granddaughter have recently embarked on a renovation project to transform the home into a museum, scheduled for completion in 2026. We will enjoy an exclusive tour of this remarkable space, where countless examples of Yrjรถ Kukkapuroโs iconic furniture designs are on display. Among them is the Karuselli lounge chair (1964), famously described by British designer Terence Conran as โthe most comfortable chair in the world.โ Also featured are Kukkapuroโs Perhonen (Butterfly) plexiglass floor lamps, created in the 1980s as an ingenious response to the home's lack of ceiling light fixtures.
