PNG Endemic Families & Port Moresby Extension
From the cool mountain forests of Papua New Guinea’s Highlands to the tropical lowland rainforest around Port Moresby, this tour offers an exceptional introduction to some of New Guinea’s most remarkable birds.
Our PNG Endemic Families Tour visits the Kumul Lodge and Rondon Ridge regions, where we search for representatives of all seven bird families endemic to New Guinea. The Highlands are also home to an extraordinary collection of birds-of-paradise, including Stephanie’s Astrapia, Brown Sicklebill and the spectacular Blue Bird-of-Paradise.
The optional Port Moresby Extension adds further birding at Varirata National Park and the wetlands of Pacific Adventist University. These contrasting habitats provide opportunities to see a completely different selection of birds, including Emperor Fairywren, Common Paradise-Kingfisher, Raggiana Bird-of-Paradise, fruit-doves, parrots, kingfishers and many other New Guinea specialities.
Together, the main tour and extension combine mountain forest, foothill rainforest and wetland birding in one carefully planned itinerary.
With a maximum group size of just six guests, our tours offer a more personal, flexible and rewarding experience, with better opportunities to see the birds and more time with our experienced guides.
