Kooringal, Mulgumpin 🌊

This is one of the views from our stop at The Gutter Bar on the Kooringal Jet Ski Tour — the skis anchored in the clear waters at the southern end of Mulgumpin, with plenty of time to slow down and take it all in.

Kooringal is one of the island’s small townships. Outside the townships, most of Mulgumpin is protected within Gheebulum Kunungai (Moreton Island) National Park and the Moreton Island Recreation Area, while the surrounding waters and tidal wetlands form part of the Moreton Bay Marine Park. These protected areas help preserve the island’s fragile sand landscapes, seagrass habitats and important marine environment.

Known traditionally as Mulgumpin — “place of sandhills” — the island lies within Quandamooka Country and has been home to the Ngugi people for thousands of years. It is also the third-largest sand island in the world.

A pretty special place to arrive by jet ski — and one worth enjoying and protecting for generations to come. 💙
