We have a windy weekend ahead of us then some great looking weather this coming week!
Full moon is next Monday
8 September so we should see some great fishing in the lead up.

This week the squid have still been thick as, and some great size arrows. Best area this season has been Southport by far, they’ll be around in numbers until the temperatures start warming up then thin out through September. The new Yamash*ta Upper floating squid jigs work unreal, rigged on a lightly weighted paternoster rig.

Whiting! The whiting are coming on nicely, although not huge average size yet but it is good to see so many numbers moving into the broadwater and rivers. I went wading the other day on a charter and we caught well over 40 fish including 27 keepers. The water is warming to 20 degrees which is good for the sporty tings.

Wading for monster whiting is one of the most fun types of sport fishing ever, we use 3 and 4 lb line and fish very shallow water, and catch lots of flathead and bream too. My next available whiting wading charter dates are 29 September, 1, 2, 13, 14 October.

Flathead in the broadwater have been hot and cold lately depending on how much baitfish there are around on the day. Jumpinpin has been best this week.

Morning low tides this week are perfect for pumping yabbies then fishing the flats and the channels for whiting, winter whiting, flounder, flathead, and there will be massive hordes of bream, tarwhine
as they feed aggressively in their lead up to full moon spawning.

RIP big fella 🥹 So tragic

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Robert Smith, the heart and Captain of Smithy Fishing Charters. He was not only a beloved Husband, Son, Father, Brother, and Friend, but also a passionate fisherman who loved sharing the ocean with so many of you.

Due to this heartbreaking loss, all upcoming charters will be cancelled. We sincerely apologise for the disruption and appreciate your understanding during this difficult time. We will be in touch directly with affected clients.
