Travelling Round.
By: Mick Adams (Shirley Adams)
So, tell me why, you travel so much,
when, in God’s waiting room, you live?
This question regularly posed to us.
Same answer, we still give!
You gotta get out, of your comfort zone!
See what else, there is, on offer.
And, do it when you can, so that,
closed borders, ain’t no stopper!
So, what did we see, this time around?
Did Queensland, inside out!
First the Country Way, up to Bundaberg,
then, to Hervey Bay, thereabouts.
Onto a flight, out to, the Barrier Reef.
T’was there, we spent, five days.
Interacting with, all the wildlife there,
like Lady Elliot’s, Manta Rays!
Then off, we were, to the Outback.
Saw Isa’s, three day rodeo!
That action, it was non stop, mate.
A truly brilliant show!
From there to Lawn Hill Gorge, it was,
to camp at Adele’s Grove.
Eighty kays of corrugations , there,
and back, was what we drove!
The Gulf had then, put out a call.
Sunsets up there, quite grand!
Six nights, spent at Karumba , were,
just one more than, we planned.
Round Atherton, got to cool right down.
On most days, yes, it rained.
Still saw enough, to bring us back,
Again, and again and again!
Camped at,Mareeba’s drive in.
Had tea, and caught, two shows.
Then, did the coastal strip, to the Daintree, where,
right to the beach, rainforests, grow!
Caught up with mates. They showed us round.
Free camp and croc tours, all thrown in.
Then, time to mosey, on back, south,
but, we ain’t hurrying!
Slowly travelled down, to Townsville.
On Magnetic Island, did a stint!
Separated from our motor homes.
It’s harder than, you think!
Now, back we are, reunited!
For Charters Towers, we’re now headed.
Near a bridge, a little, out of town,
are where, our rigs are bedded.
You ask us why we travel, mate?
Just imagine the sights we see!
The landforms and the wildlife,
and the excellent, company!
Up close to see crocodiles, platypus,
and manta rays and sharks.
There’s snakes and turtles, camels too,
in landscapes, some, quite stark!
Tree kangaroos and emus, and,
near every kinda bird!
Getting friendly with koalas, is,
much better, than we heard!
Just one regret, we have this time,
making another trip north, necessary,
Unlike past trips, we missed right out,
on seeing a cassowary!
Watching the day being born, and die, again.
Seeing, waterfalls and gorges.
Just sitting round a raging fire,
each experience, mate, if forges,
a greater love, of our wide brown land.
The appreciation, grows, of our home.
It broadens, both mind,and spirit,
each chance, we take, to roam!
I hope, your question’s answered.
You see, everything’s part of my Church,
and I want to see it, time and again,
afore, I finally, fall off, my perch!! 😀😀
