🌵 HUDSON PEAR – KNOW WHAT TO LOOK OUT FOR

We’re sharing this great post from Outback Opal Tours, with some important information about Hudson Pear and what visitors should be watching for when exploring Lightning Ridge and the surrounding Opal Fields.

Hudson Pear is not just another cactus — its sharp spines can pe*****te footwear and even vehicle tyres, and can cause serious injuries to people, livestock, working dogs and pets. The detachable sheath around the spine can also remain embedded in a wound.

⚠️ When travelling through Hudson Pear areas:

Stay on designated roads and tracks wherever possible.
Do not touch or attempt to remove Hudson Pear with your hands.
Keep children and pets well away from the plant.
If travelling off-road, check your tyres and vehicle undercarriage before leaving the area.
Check shoes, clothing, camping gear and pets for any cactus segments that may have been picked up.
Remember that even small broken pieces can take root and spread to new areas.

Hudson Pear is particularly common around Lightning Ridge, Grawin, Glengarry and Cumborah, so awareness is very important when exploring our Opal Fields.

🌿 Great News for Campers Visiting the Walgett Region! 🚐⛺

Planning a trip to the Walgett Shire? You can now stay even longer at three of our popular campgrounds!

Following a decision by Walgett Shire Council, the maximum stay has been extended to 7 nights at:

🏕️ Alex Trevallion Park, Walgett
♨️ Burren Junction Bore Bath Campground
🌳 Collarenebri Campground

💲 Camping is just $10 per night at each campground.

Whether you're relaxing in the artesian bore baths at Burren Junction, casting a line in Collarenebri, or using Walgett as your base to explore the region, you'll now have even more time to discover everything our beautiful part of outback NSW has to offer.
