When the beginners get adventurous 👊🚙
At OAC4x4, our main focus is helping new drivers get out there with confidence — teaching the basics of 4WDing and showcasing some of the incredible places Victoria has to offer.
As time goes on, those “beginners” start building skills and confidence… and naturally, they want to step things up a notch. So every now and then, we organise something a little more next level.
Most of the time (95% of it!), everything runs smoothly. But as anyone who enjoys off-roading knows, sometimes things just don’t go to plan — through no fault of anyone.
On our recent trip to Deep Creek, our Trip Leaders vehicle and another experienced mechanical issues, which meant we had to shorten the trip. Rob managed to snap both CVs and put a hole in his front diff. Another vehicle blew a brake line while parked on a 24° incline, causing it to roll backwards semi out of control — thankfully coming safely to a stop in a rut.
By the end of the following day, we all worked together, recovered the vehicles, and most importantly — everyone got out and home safely.
At OAC4X4, we don’t head out intending to break vehicles or damage tracks. But off-roading comes with risk, and sometimes things go pear-shaped.
What matters most is how we handle it — safely, calmly, and as a team.
That’s what this crew is all about. 💛
